Surrey Championship & Surrey County League, what & how much is the difference?

Surrey Championship & Surrey County League, what & how much is the difference in quality/level of Cricket, pitches, grounds, etc ?
Any information or advice would be appreciated. Thank you.

The champo is the best standard and I would say there are some seriously good players in the Premier Division.
The village league is the best format and the most fun then there is a lot in the middle.

I am not sure there is a massive difference in standard across a numbe of the leagues

Ultimately you are playing amateur cricket with some mates.

I would look for clubs near you who play in a league with other relatively local clubs on nice grounds.

Surrey County League is the feeder for the Surrey Championship, so there’s promotion/relegation between Surrey County League premier and bottom divisions of Surrey Championship. From my experience there’s definitely some overlap between the lower Surrey Championship divisions and the best of the Surrey County League. Both are county-wide so have the same drawbacks about travel times for some away fixtures. In 2025 it’s likely that the Surrey County League will be merged into the Surrey Championship as there’s an ongoing consultation process to completely restructure league cricket in the county.
As @Buzz alludes to are other more localised leagues in the county such as Surrey Downs League and Village Cricket League that play at some very attractive village grounds.

grounds wise its pretty much the same in both league setups. there are some lovely ones, and some very unappealing ones. hopefully it is much more localized next year as the ridiculous long journeys - made even more fun by the a3/m25 works - are a real put off for a saturday afternoon.

How long are the worst journeys if you exclude roadworks delays? In our leagues the worst is probably a shade over an hour's drive each way and a few clubs moved to different leagues to avoid the driving.

It depends where your club is, but if you’re in the SW of the county, you can find yourself travelling to the likes of Dulwich which is a 2.5 - 3 hour round trip, which is ridiculous if you’re not playing 1st XI premiership level. In the lower divisions in 2025 it’s likely to be split into regions so this should be much less of a problem.
