Pietersen enjoying one of Bell's bat's:

Not happy with just himself taking part in this, he get's prior in on the act too - Prior looks less amused though:

What do we think hes smelling for.

Smell of shin bone maybe?

Remember someone telling be about batmakers being near a butchers at some point so have nearby supply of shinbone for boning bats

Maybe Bell's Hawk bat smells different from KP's Hawk!?
Title: Re: Kevin Pietersen
Post by: Talisman on March 05, 2011, 08:54:36 AM
That bat is Indian made, of course if you got the contract for repairing Adidas bats you might want to big it up but they did not manage to convince Adidas to have top end made in the UK, a shame but maybe in the future they could get that changed.

I popped down to Hawk last month and they had not long sent 3 x 2lb 11oz bats out to KP ready for the world cup.

Bells bat stinks of runs at the moment that's why...
Title: Re: Kevin Pietersen
Post by: Talisman on March 05, 2011, 09:05:37 AM
So they might, but the ones he is using are Indian by the toe and the same for Bell.

Is there a bat maker in the land not making bats for an England player with other stickers on it???

Watsontotty has posted elsewhere that KP gets bats from 4 sources, I'd take a lot of it with a pinch of salt.

Looks like KP's going home! Don't know if that's a blessing in disguise or not. Shame was hoping to see him do something special this world cup....

at least he may be able to play a part in the IPL now if he has the operation now...  ;)

Definite blessing. Call up Eoin Morgan, possibility for Kieswetter, but I think I would love to see Morgan back. Australia have called up Hussey, we can get Morgan back. GAME ON!

hell yeah bell or trott to open and morgan down the order top shout
Title: Re: Kevin Pietersen
Post by: Ciaran on March 06, 2011, 09:52:25 PM
Trott to open with Straussy. Follow it up with some Bell, some Bop, then Morgan. I would like to thing Kieswetter would be seen as an option, but I definitly feel that he is one for the future. Let Morgan have his play now, these pitches will suit him!

open with strauss and kieswetter, they put pietersen up there to get us off to a flyer, CK can do that! + he is average 70 for the lions at the moment

is morgan over his injury then?
Title: Re: Kevin Pietersen
Post by: jonpinson on March 06, 2011, 09:55:45 PM
Well if it turns out to be true then I don't think it is such a big loss. Although he hasn't done badly, he hasn't exactly been world class either. I agree, open with Trott, let Strauss be the aggressor. With Pietersen opening I doubt Strauss knew which role he would have to play on any one day.

It actually raises an interesting point about the negative thinking in the England tactics. If Morgan played for any other country I have no doubt he would open in ODI. His unusual shots would allow him to make the most of fielding restictions at the start, but no. Not with England. He's a finisher apparantly.

Get a keeper in and drop Prior as he's been hopeless with the bat.

Sorry Morgan wouldn't open for any other size barring the minnows. His strength is innovation, doubt he'd be sweeping guys like Tait and Gul with the new ball

i would not open with him he is a finisher in my eyes he can be a nightmare and in ventive in the middle overs and clear the ropes at the end trott is a genuine opener/no.3 get him up there he can beat the infield if he wants as opens for us in t20 and got a stack load of runs other year

Morgan has been doing the middlesex nets. By all accounts his injury was not as bad as first feared so did not require surgury. Personally I think they should call him up, they wont need to play him Friday if he is not fit, so I would call him up and let him wean himself into the side.

if KP is injured and can take no further part then they must not bring in someone who isn't 100% ready and fully fit and ready to play, id love Morgan in the team but only if he is 100%.

Post by: Ciaran on March 06, 2011, 10:16:20 PM
He wont need to be 100% Im pretty sure a team of us could beat bangladesh. Pick PC in there to hold the place while Morgan makes sure he is 100% in time for the windies!

All confirmed now.

Swann up the order to open! Get us off to a good start and bring Bell in at 4. Pretty much keep the order flowing with Morgan at 5!

Swann to open is not confirmed. Infact Flower has indicated we might not have a set batting order for the rest of the tournament. However I would defo vote Swann to open, take it to the bowlers early, and hopefully put some pressure on.

urm... just wanted to point out that Swann is scared of fast bowling... not sure there would be much point in him opening the batting.

Bell will open with Strauss, Morgan will come in at 4.
Title: Re: Kevin Pietersen

Swann opens for his county in the CB40, so im guessing he isnt that afraid of fast bowling!
Title: Re: Kevin Pietersen
Post by: roco on March 07, 2011, 12:19:35 PM
Not much genuine fast bowling around the county circuit but if he's opening I doubt he would back away from a fight

I can't see Swann opening when there's Bell or Bopara available. Either of them would do fine imo, probably Bell first choice.

I couldnt have Bopara opening. Too dodgy and inconsistent.
What about Paul Collingwood, if he is in the squad! Best defence in the world and can pick the bad ball!

Trott is my choice as he has the experience and record to do the job

Wouldn't be smart to open with Swann, imagine the trouble we'd be in if he took one on the spinning finger from the new cherry!

I have read this alot about trott he is too slow to play odi now look plus he opens in t20 fir the bears and gets loads he paces himself but still is our best odi player at the moment if he wants to he can take an attack on with success but has had no need so far
Title: Re: Kevin Pietersen
Post by: Damo1583 on March 07, 2011, 02:18:41 PM
Just think England have the Steady Eddy role filled (to perfection) with Strauss! personally I like a bit of yin and yan in my opening pair, whether it is left right combo or steady eddy and cavalier!
Title: Re: Kevin Pietersen
Post by: roco on March 07, 2011, 02:24:05 PM
Yes I agree that's why I liked kp having a go but prior has failed so no point with him and bell has tried and failed so trott is the only one not to have a go and the only one who has experience at the role but the risk you take is moving him from 3 where he is scoring runs for me kiewswetter is very hit and miss and not the best keeper
Title: Re: Kevin Pietersen

Title: Re: Kevin Pietersen
Post by: Opener on March 07, 2011, 04:53:44 PM
Why not open with Morgan. He could be in the Amla mould of openers with a good hand eye coordination and able to find the gaps in the first 15.
Title: Re: Kevin Pietersen
Post by: mdl_1979 on March 07, 2011, 05:28:57 PM
Let's not get carried away with the idea that Trott is a slow scorer.  He has a better ODI strike rate than Bell, Bopara and Collingwood.  Nor is Strauss a slow scorer these days - in the last 2 years his strike rate is over 88 - up there with the likes of Morgan and Pietersen.
Title: Re: Kevin Pietersen
Post by: awp on March 08, 2011, 01:51:40 AM
England's batting group is about the strongest in world cricket, none of them are slow scorers, I'm disappointed that KP is out because I'm a fan, but Morgan will really add special ability. I would leave Trott exactly where he is having been so successful and open with Bell.
