Title: Redback Paradox LE
Post by: Maverick79 on March 09, 2011, 06:34:53 PM
My Redback Paradox just arrived today from Gary and I am so impressed. It's my first Redback and decided to go for one a while ago as a result of the growing reputation and great reviews on the forums. I have to say Gary hasn't disappointed (not that I expected him to) and has produced this beauty. I asked for a bat 2lb10oz which it is, between 9 and 12 grains (I think there are 13) mid middle and the largest hitting area possible. The bat responds very well to a mallet and the pick-up and balance are very good and can't wait to use it this season. I also got the traditional pads and gloves which are excellent. I used to have Salix softs and the Redback softs are far more comfortable and the pads lighter than them.

Here are some pics (hopefully-first time uploading pics). If it works and anyone wants to see some others I am quite happy to take them.

I will add to this review once I have finished knocking it in and had a net or two with it.

Woow looks amazing! I love it!

Finishing looks top notch as well, I am liking it! Is this proper Paradox shape (all the bow, concaving etc) or you have tweaked it a bit?

Do you mind posting pictures of there softs?

Thanks

Here are the pictures guys;

Also got a chance to measure spine and edges?

Yes as far as I am aware it is the normal Paradox shape. It has a lovely bow to it and the back is concaved but it's not extreme.
I loved the profile when I saw it on the Redback website and speaking to Gary about my style of play - he recommended the Paradox as well.

Will take some pics of the softs in a minute. How do you make them show up in a post - i must have done something wrong!

This REdback is the best one I have seen since I was born seriously! It is really good looking and I am loving the shape and bow looks impressive!

For its weight it is quite massive I would say.

You copy the image address and paste it in between (http://)

Just like you posted the links in OP of the pictures take them and put it (one at a time) between (http://)

So it should read like this before you submit posting;

Hi Chris - What you need to do is to put the weblink into some image tags. The image tag is just above the smiley face on post a reply (this one: :)) - when you have done that they should show up as direct pictures..hope that helps 8)

Thanks a lot for the picture mate, I appreciate it!

I have always liked Redback gloves and I really like the ones you bought.

Are these gloves stiff when you wear and do they feel comfortable and better than Salix? I have Salix softs so I just want to get a picture and compare them...

Thanks Matt. CD they feel very comfortable and I can only really compare them to the Pod Arma ones I had and they are a lot more comfortable and feel better quality. I have popped them on and held a bat with them and they are going to take a bit of wearing to get a bit more of a bend in the fingers but other than that I would definitely recommend them.

Thanks mate. Don't think neighbours are going to be too impressed though, will have 2 bats to knock-in tomorrow.

Realised I didn't talk about the bat :o :o
Absolute drummer mate, hope it serves you well up the top of the order and allows for a great all-round fame to be played effectively. My Paradox is starting to really hit it's stride now; some shots in Tuesday's net felt great :D
Another beauty from Gary: Gary if you see this, I am guessing the Wisden Bat was sold, purely out of interest? :)

It's been a while since I posted the pics of my new Paradox LE and after using the bat for the first time in a game on Saturday I would add to the initial review.

I asked for the bat to be knocked in which Gary did for me before I received it but I continued to knock the bat in for a further 5-6 10 minute sessions before facing some throw-downs in the nets. I then used the bat (carefully - I have a habit of breaking bats in nets!) in a couple of net sessions and then on to score 70 with it in Saturdays league game.. The dead weight of the bat is 2.10 with a single grip (and I asked for a spiral over the top so probably weighs around 2.11-12 now) and it picks up well. Not the lightest pick up (around 2.9) I have had form a bat the same weight and grip set up but it is superbly balanced and feels great in the hands which to me is the most important aspect.

The bat really did come alive the more I used it and it was still noticeable in the game. When I first started to net with it I thought the middle may be a little low for me as the first 6 inches of the blade (bar the first inch) from the toe was the area to really get going first. I went back to using the mallet and really focused on the area above this before returning to the nets a few days later and this definitely made a difference as a much bigger are of the blade was now starting to respond well.

I walked out to the wicket with the banter already starting, "he's got a good bat, wonder if he knows how to use it" being the opening comment. Using it in the game I found it hard going early doors and struggled to find the middle but was quite adept at using the edges! Eventually after a few overs I started to time the ball well and began to find the middle and what a beauty it is. To begin with I was having to hit the ball hard to reach the boundary but as time progressed I was finding as a result of my improved timing and middling the ball a lot more it became effortless. The opposition bowler bowled a full ball which just short of yorker length which I blocked towards wide mid-off and this resulted in four runs past the fielder. Having said that I found the bat quite forgiving with off-center shots which was very pleasing.

Reading other Redback owners reviews and posts, these bats really seem to get better and better the more they are used and I can't wait to use it again next week. A number of the lads were asking where I got it from and were very impressed with it so you may have some more customers soon Gary!

Nice looking bat, thanks for posting an upate on your progress.

If your Paradox LE is anything like my Allegiance Premier the middle will get better the more you use it!

Hope you get lots of runs with it.
