Title: Handles
Post by: awp on March 12, 2011, 09:42:05 AM
Hi Guys,
I always thought there are differences in handles but most either fell into the good category (sarawak cane either 9 or 12 piece and either 2 or 3 spring) with the second category being rubbish handles (I only assume they're made of cheap cane or the like)

I was watching a GM youtube vid something along the lines of 'how to pick a bat' or something, and the GM chap when speaking about pickup specifically referred to some handles weighing 3oz more than others.  This surprised me as I wasn't aware/hadn't considered that handle weight can vary significantly, and he was referring to the GM handles not good handles 'vs' rubbish handles.  Personally, I'd rather have the 3oz in the blade but perhaps I'm wrong there.

is there a bat maker or expert that can give us a brief run down of handles?

(PS Julian told me years ago that aside from knocking in the face wood of a new bat, you're not playing in the bat but playing in the handle!)

I guess a heavy handle would give a better pick up, in the same way a counter weight can.

Obviously, but who knew there could be such a difference in weight between handles? What makes one heavier (assuming same diameter)

Manau cane is also used
