Ok well I've refurbed my Redback ...
1) Took off scuff sheet and Tape
2) Sanded it down with 3 different grits of sandpaper
3) Oiled
4) Applied new scuff sheet and paper
Before... (It was worse than that as the pic is pretty old)

Would have been good to see what it was like before!
What is that light piece at the bottom? Looks bad IMO
-

-
Oh! Maybe it is lol.
-
Yeah looks like tape to me
-
Ive received my Fusion last friday wich i sent down to Fusion to be refurbed and when it came back it just looked like a brand new bat tbh, strongly recommend sending your bats down as the finish is superb! lol
-
Can we have some pictures Chrissy.
-
It will have to be tomorow mate.
-
Here's one of many I've had done at Fusion, also had about 3oz's off.

I don't tend to refurb them myself, unless it's a quick job for mates etc. Also had a Beast, Bradbury, SG and Crown done by James.
-
Still looks nice Tom, but before it had to be once of my favorite bats i had seen.
-
tom did you get shah's bat refurbed? or am i mixing that one up with another
-
yeah he got shah's graphite beast refurbed I think.
-
yeah i thought so, didnt part of the toe at the corner come off and then got fixed back or am i talking nonsense :P
-
Yeah i think i can remember that gramw, didnt realise it was shah's!!
-
Yeh I had that Shah/Thorpe beast done as well, that was a more difficult job as the corner of the toe needed replacing.

i have just finishned refurbing my Slazenger SE Elite Pro now restickered as V389. Will post pics tomorrow when i can take some in daylight! Had lost abit of wood at bottom corner of toe and a little just below stickers so used a bit of woodfiller(have used it before it works lol) and anti scuffed.
-
Blarney - some of the best non pro refurbs I've seen :)
I'd be keen to see close up face pics of the after shots.
-
nice work blarney
-
This is the Powerbow. One of the worst bats I have ever saw though it plays amazing. No care at all took to it and it was in awful condition with I got it. Dints, cracks and woodworm in it(I think). The blackish mark. This was probably my least best one done due to the condition before hand.
-
This is the closest up one I have of the slazenger. These were took in September and are now returned to their rightful owners log ago.

Got another few but can't post on here. PM me to see pics.

heres a refurb i've just finished, got a pretty cheap screaming cat premium players series 4 off ebay, this needed a hell of a lot of work but i reckon i've done a reasonable job.

How much did you get it for? Willow looks lovely and a hell of a job on the refurb.
-
got it for just £30
-
what weights that slogger? willow looks lush, you going to keep it?
-
That is an awesome refurb, was it all sanded by hand and around the stickers?
-
what weights that slogger? willow looks lush, you going to keep it?
it weighs 2.9 with 1 grip, i rarely keep anything, will probs sell it on soon
That is an awesome refurb, was it all sanded by hand and around the stickers?
sanded by some deadly machine on the blade and main part on the back, then hand sanded to finsish and sand around the stickers

This is just one of repairs and refurbs I have done. The pictures of the final bat really doesnt do the bat justice. I actually finished this one today. I will post pictures of other refurbs later! Sorry the pictures are a bit small, i didnt want to clog up the forum
-
Not bad that mate looks good job!
-
Bit of both mate. I brought an expensive electric sander which does the job, which I use using 40Grit sand paper, and then i hand sand using grades 80, 100 and then 320 for the finish. This one took about 2 hours to get to this standard.

This is another one I have done recently... I have got some more pictures somewhere of other bats, but I cant find them at the moment.
-
that bat looks familiar! u did a good job mate.. i want it back now lol
-
Haha, I was wondering if you would notice, and yeah its come up really nice... and its only ebay as we speak mate!
-
Looks good. I ve refurbed my bat at the end of last season and my dads and they both came out pretty well. But i didnt take any pics and now they have been used ill take some next time i do it on a bat.
-
haha, i'll hav a look in a min
Post Merge: February 17, 2009, 09:22:54 PM
out of interest craig, how much were you looking for it on ebay cos i may be interested in buying it back! i kno you've done quite a bit of work on it so i will understand if you want a lot more than you paid for it...
-
Well I think its up for £45, but if you give me an email if you want it, and i will see what I can do for you!!

did u get that done professionally
-
i got it done by m and h, i had the bat a year and they refurbed it for a fiver, new stickers, snaded down, scuff sheet and grip :D
-
Hi Guys,
Technically this is not a refurb. I had this Salix Pod1 GradeOne bat thatw as too heavy for me but had to buy it as it got knocked near the splice by my daughter.
In the absence of any sensible offers or swaps, I decided to take the risk of taking off the weight myself.
With no tools or experience to use them, I took the much harder option of sanding it down myself.
I initially thought of covering the Salix stickers with a masking tape and take the weight off the middle and bottom. But his was not easy and I realized it would compromise the middle. So I took off all the stickers and sanded it proportionally from top to bottom.
After about 4 hours of work I managed to take of 2oz from the bat.
Before the hard work:

-
Not bad, how you manage the stickers?
-
through a friend. Sorry but cannot comment any further.
I have just finished the final round of sanding and taken off about 1/4th oz more. Will post pictures soon.
-
OMG you took the salix stickers off :O how could you! haha, surely they would send you some if you told them the story?
-
Had to take off the Salix stickers to do a good job.
Spoke with Salix, but they want £20 quid for the stickers (if Vicky agrees to send them) else send them the bat for putting the stickers back, which will cost me £35 to get stickers on!! Not worth it.
Would like to have the Salix stcikers, if someone can get them for less.
I will be posting the pictures of the final refurb tomorrow, as I have taken off another half an ounce (so even the Newbery stickers got wasted:(
-
20 pound for stickers :S
Id love salix stickers, have been after them for ages but can only get them if you have a salix bat with proofe..
-
After getting a new bat around September 08, i got bored with my newbery being tatty and took the time
to refurb it, im still struggling with the sticker marks though, any help ?

James,
-
2 wasted sets of great stickers :( what ones have you got to go on there now?
-
make that 3 Liam.
Yesterday I have taken off the B52 stickers and given the Salix a further sanding to take another 1/2 oz off it. But guess will be able to replant the stickers back :)
Will post pics of the final refurb tonight.

wow that profile is boss
-
have you tried to make it resemble satchins profile? it looks similiar
-
hehehe ;D reminds me of this one
(http://www.cricket-stuff.co.uk/images/ummm.jpg)
-
Not really Norb. Just wanted to get about 2.5oz off with no or minimal change in the profile and size of the edges. Basically followed my instinct and got about achieving what I wanted.
Lot of hard work and effort. But happy that it has come out well. Hope this gets me a apprentice with one of the top bat makers on or off the forum:)
If you see the original profile the spine was not big hence could not get a higher and more curved spine.
-
Are you hard up for cash there isn't a huge amount of money in bat making unless you start whacking loads of bats out at £250+ ;D
PM me if you like Yash I'll tell you a bit about that profile and what it should give you....
-
Just want to make a couple of bats with the best bat makers. Not planning on it as afull time excercise/job. It's just a desire/dream that I would like to live.
-
It was tongue in cheek Yash.... It is not a bad way to while away the hours
-
I agree with you Norb. I can spend hrs doing this if I do not have family and work commitments. When is the next loto/Euro Millions, Need to hit a jackpot....so I can buy tools clefts and make bats all day
-
hehehe ;D reminds me of this one
(http://www.cricket-stuff.co.uk/images/ummm.jpg)
i think this profile looks lovely id love a bat with that sort of profile
-
I have refurbed before but never with taking the stickers off
Before - it was worst than the pic shows and its almost 2 years old plus i have refurbed just the blade at the end of last season but have been and have lots of indoor nets thats why did it again and the tape down the middle which i put just before covers most of the damage where the 2 of the grains had come up like a surface crack
(http://i260.photobucket.com/albums/ii32/cricket-master123/PICT0130.jpg)
After- with a new id aero , i still need to put an anti scuff on and put the toe guard back and put another aero grip green only if i had another blue .

ill post another pic when complete finish
sorry for so many pics
let me know what you think
-
i thought i will add my final image with the grip and antiscuff and toe guard leave me your thoughts
(http://i260.photobucket.com/albums/ii32/cricket-master123/PICT0141.jpg)
-
looks ok, grips and stickers don't go well together. and looks like you have overlapped the grip too much but over all the actual refurb looks good
-
cheers thats the only grip colour i had. where about do you think ive over lapped it to much because i was wondering about that ?
-
there needs to be about a 2mm gap between the bottom of the ridge and the top of the next wrap, this should be perfect for a SH. it looks like you've left no gap which is why its too short
-
Just thought i would put this one up, the bat was given to me from a friend who obviously couldnt be assed to knock the thing in, it had loads of seem marks and pretty heavy cracks on the inside edge. Managed to get a bit of life back into it and now after knocking it in for a while it seems to fly!

Real skill mate.

mate you've done a good job.....though that crack looks pretty serious! My team mates bat had a massive crack like that, he used cotton tape and pva glue on it, this kind of formed like a cast when it hardened and the bats still going to this day! how much did you pay for iy by the way?
-
cheers, yeah the crack is pretty bad but its taped and glued up and seems quite solid. i didnt pay a lot for it (£15!) and it has a very nice pick up and pings quite well so i think i got a bargain!

how do you guys refurb your bats. I generally do a bit of sanding and a bit of glueing for the cracks - does anyone do any thing else?
-
how do you guys refurb your bats. I generally do a bit of sanding and a bit of glueing for the cracks - does anyone do any thing else?
I usualyl add a bit of salix bat wax to get a nice finish
-
beeswax finish regrip, new anti-scuff, new toe guard and occasionaly new stickers
-
beeswax?,isn't that like furniture polish? do you stick linseed on before or after?
-
Beeswax is what is used when the bat is made to keep moisture out and make it look shiny but i have one which has linseed oil in it to keep it shiny and to add a bit of oil
-
