Is there a massive amount of difference in using non padded compared to padded.... not only in protection but feel of the ball when catching.
Reds
-
Iv kept wicket a max of 4 times usually when drunk but don't want too thick an inner to stop the feelin from catching the ball, got a couPle of pairs of inners to try out if I do get lumbered with the job!
-
Definitely non-padded for me. I bought some padded ones by mistake this year and tried them out. Didn't have any feeling, and found it hard to grasp the ball. In fact it was a struggle getting my hand into my wicket-keeping gloves with them on!
-
had both never really bothered me.
didnt cause me any problems

All that makes complete sense. I thought I was the only one who thought that... padded inners make my customs feel to small
-
Yeah. I have the GM All White Ones and with padded inners I can hardly fit my sausage fingers in! Need to find a decent pair of non padded chamois ones. Any ideas? I have about 3 pairs of brand new inners that I need to get rid of!
-
Padded inners with a fingerless over the top, softer gloves with more customized inners

I have just got non padded ones from v sports. Have a look on there mate...
-
Have always used half chamois and padded.
Used full chamois unpadded yesterday. Will never go back to padded.
So much more feel.
-
Great stuff China :)
-
got a full working out tonight with non padded inners. Certainly get more of a feel for the ball but obviously less protection for a split second. bit of a decision on which I'll use me thinks....
-
If you can take the pain, go unpadded mate
-
Yer it's literally only for a split second mate
-
Does anybody know what certain pros wear?
-
Just taken delivery of some VSports unpadded half chamois inners (cotton backs) and they feel really good. Not tried them with gloves on yet, but may have a go at wetting them at nets tonight and see how they feel

Exactly the same as what I've got they are mate.
MAsuri arrived yet?
-
Not yet mate, should be here end of the week.
I got them because of your suggestion mate, exactly what I was looking for

The best insight I have is Haddins keeping corner which has been post before.

His inners look full chamios but you can't see padded or not.
However most interesting is his "finger guards" which are a "keepers best friend".
What the hell are they?
-
top linkage China!!! :)
-
i use these... http://www.acasports.co.uk/product_info.php?cpath=91_321&products_id=4730
-
Personally I use un-padded inners soaked and rung out in hot water for quicks only, when the spinners and dobblers come on i remove my inners. I feel that the work done standing up is instinctive and inners tend to dull the senses!

SG, I have similar finger socks in my kit but would only use them to protect an already damaged finger. Even then I don't think it really helps so actually I have given them away.
-
I use the finger sleeves for hockey and they are great. I can't comment on their uses for keeping though
-
i have also used finger guards only for injured fingers (mostly the mid joint) and have a couple in my kit bag. i think it helps keep the joint steady thereby preventing further injury/pain. this is something that basketball players also use.
-
i used non padded last year, and it killed my hands on occasions. so was gonna switch to padded ? would you recommend this!!!!!

Depends how you find the grip of the when catching with non padded?
-
I swapped between padded and non padded on Sunday at training, first time I had done this in a session and the difference is massive in my eyes. I had no feeling of the ball with padded. Yer it took the sting away little but no real feel for the ball...
-
BUMP!
as i've said a few times, i've moved up from 3rd to 2nd team this season due to my keeping. i'm working hard on my feet and technique, but my catching still isn't brilliant and i'm wondering whether this may be because i changed to padded inners?
for example i dropped a sharp catch down leg standing up to a spinner last night, which went into the glove and came back out. i did everything right, got across and got my hands in the right place but just didnt feel the ball into the glove.
i used to use non-padded but changed when i started keeping to 65-70mph quicks! i don't mind my hands stinging a bit (hate the bruising tho!) so maybe an unpadded chamois is the answer?
-
What keeping gloves are you using mate?
-
I've got 2 pairs, but usually the ones I use are GM 606s.
-
Do they have a decent amount of padding in them? I got some Kook Silvers and found that they are quite thin, but when I tried padded inners I couldn't feel the ball. So I may well just get them refaced.
Am slowly growing to love my Wymer customs, after months of bitching about them
-
an average amount i'd say.
i've gone from using short cuff to full cuff as well because i felt with the short cuff i was "catching" every delivery rather than "taking" if you see what i mean.
i could probably use a new pair though in any case. maybe i'll splash out - birthday soon.
-
Have you tried soaking your inners with water before you go out to keep?
I use Puma Chamois Padded ones and soak them just before I go to keep and then usually during the 25 over drinks break. Really does work in my eyes! You should give it a go.
-
those are the ones i have - they're okay but the thumb padding annoys me as the seam goes right down the centre of my thumb, so if i catch one on the inside of the thumb it stings! i usually tape them into place.
i'll try soaking them and see what happens!
-
What are the benefits from soaking them? I have done it a few times and don't really notice the difference I have to admit
-
The problem which I first had was that with non padded inners was that they didn't seem to fill my glove. Therefore they felt as though the glove was slipping off my hand slightly. Then when I got full padded inners they were too tight, and I found it quite hard to hold the ball properly. By soaking the inners they seamed to fit better in the glove.
I suppose that might not be what it is actually intended for but it works for me.
I've also heard people say that it absorbs more of the balls energy and so doesn't hurt your hands as much.
-
Just ordered some more VSports inners but this time full chamois, will give them a crack.
I would have a look at getting some customs though Tom - it's taken some time to fall in love but they are bloody good. Think I was just moaning for the sake of it - and it cost me £70 as I went and got some Kook Silvers!! They are bloody good as well though, so at least I am spoilt for choice
-
feel free to pass your spare/out of favour mitts my way ;)

this forum has cost me £100's mate. I have sat here at work before, logged on to have a read and then spend the next 3 hours looking at thigh pads...it's a good job I have hit all my work targets this year..
-
agreed. i only joined a few weeks ago, since then i've bought three bats, 2 pairs of gloves, some cricket shoes and a grille!
mind you i have been taking my cricket much more seriously this season than ever before so a lot of my kit did need updating. on the sniff for a bargain pair of WK gloves and pads next...
-
Good man. What bats have you picked up?
If you don't want to go down the custom route, you cant go wrong with SS although they only so shorter cuff and the Kook Silvers are class
-
i've been eyeing up the MS Dhoni gloves for quite some time now actually.
-
I got some of them off Sam (peplow) and they were lovely, but sold them on to a bloke at another club as he needed some and I had too many pairs of gloves...quite a few lads on here use SS. Depends what style you like though.
-
V sports chamios non padded soaked and soaked before use work amazing for me!
-
At the moment Im using a half chamois inner with a fingerless bicycle glove over the top, my actual gloves dont have much protection any more so I find this gives me good protection and still feel the ball
