Guys,
I got my new bat yesterday, will post the pictures later this week as its an impulse buy and not sure how to break the news with my Mrs.. ;-)
But when I asked for a Toe Guard the guy at ths shop said, just apply some marine varnish and that would do the trick. Was he correct ?
Does a Toe Guard add weight to the bat ? He was saying it does esp the M&H guy, Nick I presume.
Any thoughts on:
1. Whats the best toe guard for a bat ?
2. Is Varnish a good alternative ?
Cheers,
Sunny

Put a toe guard on.......... the weight is negligible.

Thanks mate...

I have to have a toe guard as in a certain person expert opinion I am a "serial tapper" ha

Its not just a seal Sunny, it's a protector against tapping damage also feathering as well. They are easily worth it, although not at M&H prices, £15 is mad, more like £1 would be a fair cost, and yes I have toe guards for £1 if people want them...

What postage on that mike and decent quality mike? easy to apply?
Was going to take my bat to M&H to repair the toe, which is £15 and i thought that was reasonable. But wanted a toe guard so thought maybe an extra couple of quid. But £15 for a toe guard! Ridiculous. So repair and toe guard would be £30!

I don't know, they never fit them to their bats but that is the price on their website.
Postage would be £0.50 for upto 10 toe guards. Best quality, good flexibility to them so an easy fit.

Do people think plastic toegueards are better or shoe goo?

rubber ones. not plastic

I use Shoe Goo.
It is easy to apply.
It is lighter than a conventional rubber toe guard.
It is strong and can be topped up or peeled off and replaced anytime.
Just my opinion.

how come most pro's don't have any toe guard on their bats ?

how come most pro's don't have any toe guard on their bats ?
Because they get kit so don't have to buy a new one if moisture gets in and the toe goes

How many times do pros bat on damp wickets?
-
yeah i suppose so they get all their bats with the same specs,
if you are scoring runs with a bat don't you want to try and prolong it?
constant tapping on the crease may change the shape of the toe as well

T20s when it's raining but they decide "Its only a T20, get the game in"

dont use a toe guard ! if you damage the toe of the bat you cant see it. then the damage becomes terminal when it could of been saved if you didnt have it, if you are a tapper tap the bat on the back of your foot not the ground
