Hi guys, i've got a teammate who wants to come over and play some Club cricket in the UK. He is not looking to be the club pro, he would just like to play some top level club cricket and work to pay his way. He is a top order batsman/wicketkeeper that has played Provincial U/19 cricket. A very talented cricketer!
He has also been working in SA as groundsman so he would be able to help out at the Club with the ground as well as coaching. Does anybody know of any Club who might be interested?
-
i reckon we could be, i'l have a word
-
That would be great Canners! What club would that be at? What league would you guys be playing in?
-
Shepherd Neame (Essex) div 2- Horndon on the Hill CC
-
Cool, thanks. i presume Div 2 is just below your Top league?
-
Trying to get him as many options as possible, are there any other Clubs that might be interested?
-
Cys...where abouts would he ideally like to be located in the country?
-
Hi Harry. My experience of playing in the UK has taught me that SA batsmen tend to do better further South where the wickets are a little harder. That being said, this would be his first trip over and i think he would just be thankfull to get Club anywhere! He really just wants to play lots cricket in one of the top leagues. I have asked some of my contacts in the Northern Cricket Union in Northern ireland but they have changed their rules about overseas players. Each club is only allowed to have 1 overseas player and all of the Clubs already has a pro for this season.

have a look at our website...http://marshfieldcricketclub.co.uk/
1st team play in a very competitive league. We're located in the west of England between Bristol and Bath.
Our club secretary would be the man to speak with as we had an Australian player here last summer and work was found for him. Secretary's email is ben@mbakery.co.uk hope that's of assistance.

It might be cutting it a bit fine for visas etc, our club was in a similar situation last year with trying to sort things out for an overseas quite late.
Does he have any form of cricketing CV? Would probably help convince perspective clubs
-
I suspect if he is a Saffa he will want to be playing at a club near Earlsfield, south west London, which is actually a province of SA. If this is the case, PM me as my club is very close... we have the hardest wicket in town ;)
-
Buzz your coming to play for my club, you just dont know it yet ;)
-
Thanks Harvey. Will def have a look and hopefully be in contact.

I agree about the late part and i have advised him to start the ball rolling on his side in case he does find a suitable club so that things can proceed as quickly as possible. He does have a CV but it will probably only go out to Clubs who are truly interested.

Defo mate, i wouldnt say put it out for everyone to see, but, its good he has one ready. I known alot of overseas deals go wrong just before the season starts so im sure he'll get something
-
Yup, hoping that we'll get one. He's a really talented player and a season of cricket in the UK will do him the world of good.
He's also got a technique that would be well suited to score runs in the UK, he can deal with the seaming delivery and plays the ball very late. As a keeper he'll probably also be able to stand up to the stumps for most of the bowlers and in limited over competitions that makes a massive difference in curbing the batsman's scoring areas.

I'm sure the 'Rec' at Horndon would suit this player if he plays the ball late. Be nice to see Horndon back up the leagues as i enjoy playing against them, nice blokes.
-
haha its a slow old dog at horndon.....
cheers mate we dont do a bad tea either, hopefully we'l be up with you guys again sometime soon
oh and do me a favour smash Orsett first game of the season :)
-
I think he would be better off playing at the home of cricket - Chertsey CC.
Inventors of the middle stump, batsmans paradise, friendly natives, 20 mins from Earlsfield and the bright lights of London and a shop in town that sells Biltong.
Tell him to get his ass over here!
-
stop nicking our players fattus
-
im sure i could get him in at my gaff, but not sure we would be able to pay any sort of wage, its against our ethics even if he was doing the ground - were run on a voluntary basis all around with (financially) the club being the winner. Strong team ethic, between 3 and 5 games on offer most weeks, very high standard of cricket on sundays, saturdays are getting there slowly, carnival atmosphere, friday night bbq's, ropey outfield, greentop seamers and rib destroying laughter at the expense of others... if you are interested please contact me, although finding a job to run alongside would be paramount
-
forgot to mention, picturesque lincolnshire market town, fiersome rivalry with local opponents - puts galatasary vs fenerbache to shame, must enjoy ale and/or spirits and finally, pinching mr crickets spot in the top 5 strictly prohibited!

Will try for sure to smash them, did try 1st game last year, but a certain someone kept in the umpires ears and got called off.
