Title: need new kit- suggestions?
Post by: Twelfth Man on April 06, 2011, 09:02:40 AM
Well I'm new to this forum so not too sure where to put this topic, but this seemed a reasonable enough place.

With the cricket season just weeks away, I'm looking to get some new kit in and not entirely sure what to get, and wondering if anybody had some good suggestions? I'm open to any ideas. I was wondering if anybody knew of brands which might do some kind of discounts/sponsorship etc.

Hope somebody can help me out.  :)

Don't know about sponsorship but plenty of decent kit about but it depends on budget as having tried most of the bats off here there is some quality kit about

When looking for sponsorship you must see it from the companies point of view. No offence intended but you are not going to be able to promote their brand very well. I would try smaller named brands, as Kookaburra and other leading brands will give you something like 40% of RRP, which is just the same as what you can get from a normal shop.

Just try and bargain with a smaller brand, and purchase all your kit from them. You should be able to get a good deal.

Yeah  I'm not looking for a sponsorship to be honest, as i'm not good enough just looking for good deals price for quality wise. I'll look at the smaller brands and go from there, thanks :)

Look at the sponsors section of the forum. Try them, they are smaller brands that produce quality goods. I believe Instict were looking to sponsor people

There's 10% off saf gear atm. Go with what you think will give you the best gear, not who gives you the most money off

Thanks, that's what I'll do!

I want to see what kit i could get at the lowest price, as I don't have tons of money to spend on gear. :/

That's why I was asking whether people could recommend good gear? :)

What sorta budget do you have? And what offers have you had? Might help people make suggestion...

Personally I'm a big fan of H4L, also really like the look of redback and ayrtek softs although haven't seen them in the flesh.

Most of the "offers" are 40-50% discount off.
I don't want to/can't afford the £250 bat, £70 pads, £50 gloves...

If you have that much to spend why do you need sponsorship?

As a company that gets a fair few requests we would like to think that the person we offer the sponsorship too is going to value it or are in need of it rather than purely to be johnny big balls at their prospective club giving it the "yeah im sponsored" line to all that will listen.

We play club cricket and iv overheard enough people in my time who have gone and purchased matching kit claiming to be sponsored lol

We've had a kid come to training with the horrible fake nike stickers on his bat claiming to be sponsored. His top score is at most 30 in an under 15 game.

Yeah it's funny when people say I'm sponsored ha

It is minor county mate as full county is first class but still a good standard

I have mostly matching kit

Any brand on here will sort you out with a top-notch Bat, and those that do pads and gloves can do the same with them.
I suggest you think about which brand's stickers you like the most..and go from there. H4Ls gloves are great (I have them) and the bats have been raved about! So they're a good option, as are Ayrtek, SAF, Redback or Blue Room, to name a few...

You get what you pay for unfortunately mate as £200 ish for a top of the range uk made grade 1 bat is about the norm now but you can pick up a bargain or two here and there

But if your on a tight budget maybe not go for the totr stuff ?
