Title: All these custom bats...Helppppp!!!!!
Post by: Number4 on April 09, 2011, 12:48:13 PM: Ok please excuse my ignorance but here in Australia there doesn't seem to be too much in the way of custom bats around.
I have been around the game for quite awhile now and have played 1st grade cricket in my district but have never really known anyone who uses custom bats, all off the shelf 99% which have been the top of the respective makers range.
I have known of Laver & Wood (which I have recently ordered one) and also Screaming Cat but the custom bats which are on this site I haven't really heard much about until joining this forum all of which I have no doubt are top quality bats.

Can anyone give me some background info on all/some of the custom bat makers here. e.g Who the bat makers are, where there learnt the art, under who they trained. etc etc etc

I think your best bet would be to look over each maker's site as they often contain that sort of information. Failing that you can always contact them directly, most are happy to answer questions.

Ok I have done what you asked and so far I have come up with the following:

Blackcat - No info on who is the Batmaker/podshaver
Bulldog - No info on who the Batmaker/podshaver is
Hell4leather - Batmaker/podshaver is Matt Barton - no more info
Instinct - No info who the Batmaker/podshaver is
Blueroom - No Info who the Batmaker/podshaver is
Saf - Batmaker/podshaver is Andy - No more info

Rob Pack (makes high end Pumas) is the BR Podshaver
Andy makes the SAF Bats
Matt makes the H4L bats.
Ayrtek, BC, Bulldog and Instinct bats are contract made. I know Ayrtek have a supplier of Willow, and Instinct use their own supply.
Talisman uses his supply of willow and gets them contract made, I believe. Not 100% sure.
As has been said, if you e-mail people they are usually more than happy to answer your queries.
Kieron is in charge of Bulldog
Dan is in charge of Instinct (I think these 2 - Dan and Kieron - play for the same team, imagine the bats on that team, though there is no connection on the brands). Tom is in charge of Ayrtek, well-reknowned for their helmets but all their other goods are top-notch. Charlie is in charge of Black Cat, and Mike (Talisman) is in charge of Talisman. Mike is a very busy man so your PM may not be replied to instantly, but I should think he'll get round to it sometime.

2nded. Our reviews are in the Instinct Section if you're interested.
Lekka have some great contacts and some of the bats they churn out are tops.
PM Kev or alternatively e-mail James about them (I think James' e-mail is on their site..)
