Just got back from a very productive net session both with bat and ball (new approach worked nicely, thanks for the tips) but I'm very annoyed at the same time. This comes down to my bats. I have always used bats at 2.10-2.11 or what were sold at those weights anyway and I felt quite good tonight, until I had ago with a much lighter bat around 2.6/2.7
At first it felt strange as expected but I had tried this before and struggled. However the longer I used it the better it felt and I seemed to be playing straighter, hitting cleaner and harder and I probably had the best net I've had in a very long time.
The problem I now have is 3 top line bats (2custom) all at 2.10/11
What should I do? Get the weights reduced and sacrifice the profiles or look to sell and start fresh with some bats at 2.6/2.7
My heads a shed!! :(
-
let me know if you want to sell any of your bats!!
;)

Great advice. thanks lol
-
welcome to the lighter bats brigade mate glad it helped you Liam.
-
I've gone down a couple of ounces this season. Although my heavier H4L felt better today lol
-
Stick to what u know mate, do u actually know they were lighter or just what u were told? Perception can be a funny thing!
-
The 3 bats I have are on my salta scales:
Blue room custom 2.10.5
Brad stickered loxton 2.10
Special GN: 2.10
The lighter bat felt strange at first but aftermaybe 10 balls I felt loads quicker with my hands, more balanced, more upright and I was definitely hitting the ball cleaner
-
What was the bat you used was it the modified 2lb 6oz that looks around 2lb 12oz.
That bat spent 4 weeks in a airing cupboard
-
I was unaware it was modified or had been over dried!! Sam never mentioned that. I wouldn't say it looked overly big either.
-
Yen I meant the bat that was lighter? I would use what u have in all honesty and just see it as a one off and take your positive mindset into the next net with ur own bats.
Iv had nets where I couldn't hit the floor let alone a ball, week later on same kit different story and was going like a good un!
-
it was not professionally done and Sam never new mate i never told anybody was part of a deal.
i sure it quite big i have some pictures of it somewhere.
Bat aside Liam
What did you find easier with a lighter bat.
-
Oh right. It just felt much easier to get into position, stay balanced, play straighter and I felt like I was striking everything much cleaner, getting a fuller contact. Maybe some
Of that could be to do with the handle I don't know. I just felt better for using it
-
At some point u have to rely on ur talent and not ur kit! I'm sure there's a saying about a bad workman blaming his tools ;)
Put faith in urself mate and back ur tekkers :)
-
there a classy shape mate i like the typical SS shape mate.

Maybe I was concentrating more I don't know :) my gear is quality even if I do say so myself lol I'm netting again tomorrow so will go back to BR and see what happens. I'm after an SS now though I like the profile a lot
-
The interesting phrase you used was 'should I sacrifice profile'.
If a bat that is lighter and therefore smaller, but it's making you bat better - then does it matter?
I used a 3lb bat and it gave me such bad Tennis elbow I've never quite recovered.
It's not about having a big tallywhacker - it's the result you get from using it properly.
If a lighter bat makes you bat better, keep working with it and bugger the profile.
-
What I meant by that was sacrifice the middle etc. As concaving will reduce the hitting area
-

not always if it has off set edges it can make it interesting
-
Never thought of that. Suppose I could keep one bat at 2.10 and replace another and see how things go?
-
Moral of the story is never ever touch or use anyones bat because you can then fall for it! :L
2.10 bats feel good in the beginning but for me as I get tired it feels very heavy.
I would say start everything again, don't reduce the weight because it won't work out well

So stick with my heavier bats and just start over at nets tomorrow
-
Do what you feel best but do not do it on a whim try it out a few times before you go selling your prize and joys mate.
-
I meant to say that sell the current ones :D and start buying new ones :)
-
Liam, when I first got my Monster, I thought "(No Swearing Please), this is heavier than what I thought" but the more I have used it, and the addition of a grip to act as a counter-balance it's now perfect for me.
Most people would have sold it, it's amazing what some perseverance and confidence in your ability will do. I sort of gave myself the mindset where I said I've paid for it, you can't have another one, so get used to it. And I did! Wouldn't swap it for the world now
-
It's just in my head now! Did I just have a very good net? Was it me? Was it the lighter bat? Etc it's annoyed the crap out of me all night
-
i've got to the stage now where i realised i only need one bat! i love both of mine but 1 is plenty, gonna stick with the original one i bought for now, got to that stage now where its played in, bowlers beware ;)
-
I know what you mean mate. I am currently in a dilema about my thigh pads!! They are misbehaving slightly and quite possible I will make the move to Aero - we shall see!
Try not to do your own head in mate, you know your bats, you know you are handy, just carry on as you are. Try the net tomorrow night and see how you feel. I wouldn't start doubting yourself this close to the season
-
funny you mention thigh pads i have gone off wearing my inner thigh pad at the minute over thinking this no doubt
-
I've tried heavy bats and they do give me the confidence to hit big and play my shots but I always go back to lighter bats as I feel more confident especially against the quicks... I guess you need to find a happy medium
-
I wouldn't say 2.10 was heavy but it's really atressing me now lol. I'm not doubting my talent or lack of just the wrights of my weapons considering how great it felt Batting with a matchstick weight :)
-
Maybe you just need to hit the gym boyo ;)
-
I already do lol. I'm a 5ft9 11stone UNIT!! ;)
-
haha im sorry mate, i didnt mean it lol ;)
-
Haha good job I'm not MASSIVE isn't it ;)
-
HA! Lightweight.
6ft2 10 stone unit me ;)
-
Lightweight!! I weigh more than you lad. Your just taller. And at 10stone That makes you a lanky bean pole and me a stocky monster
-
I prefer the term 'athletic build' :L
-
Haha I wish I had an 'athletic build'
-
Your both light weights let's leave it at that children
-
Sorry big bad ruffcock :)
-
I just ordered the England ODI shirt in a MEDIUM!! That vegetable soup diet really does work ;)
Just got to fit my shoulders in there now
-
XL, just for length.
That's what she said
-
That's big bad a.ruff-cock me lad
I remember when I wore a medium all those years ago
-
Can't have been that long ago mate. Only got a medium cos the large is fat (No Swearing Please) size and I hopefully won't get there
-
Last time I wore a medium was when I was 14 mate
-
That's for length reasons though, not width? Ain't you about 7ft tall?
Sorry back on topic.....
Liam, stop being a girl and whack the bloody thing
-

6ft4 mate
Damn Liam you told little will
-
what about you being a ruff cock
-
You'll whack me? Sorry, have I stumbled into the set of the Sopranos?
-
Haha I love the sopranos
-
Liam, as some who has gone up as far as 3'4oz and down to 2'7oz now, here's my thoughts. Pickup is more important than actual weight, don't get to hung up on the odd oz. Yes 2'7 compared to 2'10 will make a difference but maybe find a light pickup in a 2'8 or 2'9? Also, have you seen my bats? They generally don't lack for profile and you do gain in bat speed.
-
As someone who had migrated from nearly 3 lb to 2 lb 10, you do notice an improvement in bat speed, with out loss of power, but then momentum is mv.....
Get the weight reduced mate!
-
I was unaware it was modified or had been over dried!! Sam never mentioned that. I wouldn't say it looked overly big either.
lmao i was unaware too!
-
I told him mate you new nothing bud i did not think to say as it was part of the whole deal and they were better bats sorry mate
-
dont think its a problem tbh :) liam will pm me if it is and i'll sort him out :)
-
Dear Mr Wannabe88,
your current bats are fine. once you get out in the middle the adrenalin will mean you wont notice the difference.
the lighter bats are fine for a quick indoor net, but outside you will be craving the extra weight.
MAN UP
kind regards
Mr B Rockport.
-
get to the gym and stop being a fag. 2.6 what are you 11?
-
Buzz: your probably right, it's a recurring theme with your posts :) thanks
And simmy: we can't all be pie eating slog monsters like you. Some of us like to be more cultured at the crease. ;)
-
and stay in :D - couldn't resist lol
-
Man-up ;) I use a 3lb 2oz monster! :D
-
Hit the weights PW88 ;)
-
Agreed, I'm hardly big and I use a 2'12, get some meat on you woman ;)
