Sorry for the long absence, I forgot about the forum :O And then ended up in and out of hospital for the past few weeks. :( Anyway...
I travelled up to Robert Pack Cricket in January, with a view to getting a new bat. I did. And what a bat.....
Being a Christmas present, I managed to get the whole shebang- watching the master himself make it, selecting my own cleft etc... I was after a light bat, that I could wield comfortably against the faster bowlers to make cutting etc nice and easy. It also required meat for the (very) rare occasion I do slot the ball through the covers, or just flick it down to third man. The cleft chosen was apparently one of the best there- I chose it for it's weight if anything, it clocked in at only 2lbs 3oz If I recall correctly. Watching Mr. Pack make it was a truly humbling expereicne- how could anyone possible be that skilled at his job? Remarkable. A true craftsman.
Specs: Top Model New Wave
Weight: 2lb 5oz (Including stickers and oiling)
Edges: Bigger than 50p, that@s for sure.
Looks: Stunning, The pink stickers are by far the nicest I've ever had on a bat.
Performance: Having had it Pre Knocked in, I too gave it another couple of hours knocking in and then took to the club's nets... If my ancient Slazenger was a gun, this is a piece of field artillery. Seriously. It just... flies. I've never experienced anything quite like it really! Due to my current health status, I haven't been doing nets for a few weeks. I've also lost all my muscles, or so it seems, but I can still wield it relatively well. The middle is large enough, with a bit more practice with my bat I should be able to middle most deliveries, something that was impossible with previous bats.
I wholeheartedly recommend Robert Pack and his cricket shop/bat making expertise, we will be buying all our cricket products from him in the future... In fact my Dad now wants an even lighter(!) bat off him now... This bat will be used for as long as possible, I reckon there's many years of play to be had with it... it's just so good!
Pictures will be posted later tonight, when I've finished my history revision. Thank god it's on my best subject...

-
sounds like a beast! get some pictures up if you could, would love to see it.
-
I'm so pleased you enjoyed your visit. Good luck this year I hope your new wave brings you plenty of runs :)
-
Welcome back billy mate
-
Are we going to see some images of this fine bit of willow Billy lad?
-
Billy do you have any images yet? :)
Hope you've recovered well, I wish you the best! :)
Liam, do you think that it would be possible for Rob to re-create this sort of bat in this weight, as I have a skipper with fast-twitch muscles who needs a light bat and so I mentioned to him yesterday the idea of custom bats, and he sounded pretty interested. I mentioned Blue Room as I'd seen this bat as well!
Cheers buddy
-
Yes mate if you get his requirements to me I can sort all that out for him. Alternatively get him to send me an email mate and we can take it from there
-
Yeah If he wants a bat I will point him in Rob's direction buddy.
I'll get him to e-mail rob with his specs, but I think Rob will be able to work it out :)
Cheers

Sorry for the picture delay, I've been busy popping pills and praying I'll be fit for the start of the season!

Damn, Forgot to turn Macro on :( But you get the idea. Sorry for the poor pic quality all round :S

Ps... The cherries on the edges... It's a special flick that goes down past deep backward square, it works, trust me. Only ever been caught in the slips once and that was driving at a loosener. But still, With this bat, it would have killed someone in the slips or covers. :)
Thank you for all the get well messages, I am trying my best :) No Milk nor wheat diet is terrible though. I have to say :( No easter eggs for me chaps! :(
(http://i864.photobucket.com/albums/ab201/billyb95/Cricket%20and%20Airsoft%202010-2011/P1010527.jpg) Terrible pic, but shows the whole collection :) Can't wait to be better.
Mr Pack also gave me the choice of two profile types, a traditional and then the one I went with, an 'aggressive/modern' one. I probably should have gotten the traditional one, but I figured I wouldn't be timing everything to perfection :) Really top quality bat and service from Robert pack Cricket- they also have a brilliant shop too! WOOP! :)

Looks quite big for a 2.5 Billy :) lovely willow as well even if I do say so myself
And before I forget, best of luck with your recovery fella.
-
I'm really pleased with it, to say the least! :D
I agree, It is definitely 2lb5ozs, but the edges are massive... An example of Mr Pack's master craftsmanship! I seriously think that he has to be one of, if not the, best batmaker in the Uk? I never thought I would have have a bat this good to be honest :)
Thanks Pro Wannabe :)
-
Looks massive for the weight, you've got yourself a beaut of a bat there!
Shame it's a bank holiday when I'm coming very near to the pack cave. I'm going to the Rushden Harriers game next monday. Would love to go and have a look around.
-
It certainly looks big for its weight. Lovely grains too!
I hope it goes well for you!
-
Thanks Cover_Drive :) I'm sure it will, when I was doing nets I had never seen bowlers dive out of the way so quickly! :D
Thanks Matt, I'm certainly chuffed with it! Unlucky, I had to wait for Christmas, then missed the new Years slot, but hey, I have it in my hands now ... :D
People pay £350 for Branded Bats, when you could have this for £220 iirc. Madness :)
'I'm so pleased you enjoyed your visit. Good luck this year I hope your new wave brings you plenty of runs '. It was a great visit, absolutely top service, thanks mate :) It's up to me now to do the business... And nothing, apart from another detention in hospital, can stop me :) Looks like I will have a lot of cricket in for me this year, and hopefully I have avoided the annual injury which occurs early on in the season :)
Ohhhh :( I just broke my homemade training device by using it. I middled it . Damn. Ahh well.
-
Top stick that looks mate
-
Nice to see a fellow blueroom owner in Kenilworth bud ;)
Looks beautiful too!
-
My word, what a beautiful bat!! Those grains are just spectacular! Plus just 2lb 5oz :o
Get well soon bud, just having the bat but not being able to wield it out there in the middle must be sheer torture :D
-
Thanks 19reading87, doubt I'll find a better one for the money I guess!!!
Thanks Soops :) Ha ha, do you play for Wardens or the -other- team that plays down the road? :P We will probably play with each other/against this year, depending on your team? :)
Thanks Skip :D I love it, I find myself fondling it a lot, playing imaginary textbook cuts which are clearly crashing through the ropes ;) Ha ha, yeah it's not great- Not as bad as not having chocolate over easter though :P
I can feel myself improving, so hopefully I might not miss the seasons 1st game ;)
-
WOW! Hugely impressive size and very nice grains. Exactly how large are the edges mate?
-
Fortunately I play for that 'other' team down the road ;)

Roughly 30mm would be my guess. Reading the OP thoroughly usually answers many questions :)
-
I'll measure them properly later :)
Off for a net in a few minutes, will let you know how she goes :)
On another note, I spent a day with Ian Bell yesterday :D, met Ashley Giles etc :) Awesome day, Bell is an awesome guy :)
-
Thought I'd add to my old thread, seeing as I didn't get much in about its performance due to my seasonal health debacle :)
Played the remainder of the season with it, and she is an absolute beaut! Really, really flies of the middle, to the point where fielders didn't bother to chase a few good shots, even when they are near :)
I didn't make a big score last year, but I've had some coaching at last and ironed out a few things, I'm buzzing for the new season, and I know that I will never get a better bat!
I cracked the toe on a yorker late on, and Rob repaired it for me free of charge. He is a top bloke, really is, and having seem him at work... He's a wizard! :)
-
Wow that bat is really nice looking, can't believe its 2.5lbs...
-
It is very light for its size. Rob is a miracle worker! The cleft is actually lighter as the stickers added an ounce or two ;)
-
hmm wow, thats getting me a little excited, hoping to get one of BR bats but have made a couple of small but specific requests so lets see what come through :)
-
Rob won't let you down, he is a master craftsman :) He can customize most things, and is very kind to loyal customers.

Well i have the pleasure of using a Puma iridium, that i got off one of the forum members and it is fantastic, so no doubt the craftsmanship is top notch,,,and he has a good aide in Prowannabe, been communicating with him and top top service...looking forward to getting my bat :)
-
Billy, did you at any point play against Norton Lindsey last season??
-
No, I didn't play against Norton Lindsey last season, I think that game was either when I was away or ill! :( (or might have been a team higher up the pecking order, as they all got mixed up last year).
I'm sure your new bat will serve you well. ProWannabe does a good job, has to be said. :) Good luck!
