I've agreed to buy a bat from Ebay through someone I have trust in and have had good communication with. Today he sent me an email saying that after closer inspection of the bat I agreed to buy he has noticed that there seems to be a filler of resin in the splice of the bat.
He took a picture of it, however it's not the clearest picture so you can't quite make it out. Is this something I should worry about? Why have they done this? What does this mean for bat?

All these bats mate... I may have to take care of the Steven Davies when you get back ;)
-
As in a filled knot or something similar, best to post the picture even if it's not the best.
-
It were there a gap in the splice because the handle does not fit in right i have seen this on some Asian bats.

It's a different bat to that, that ones at the GN factory by now getting sorted.I saw a Hawk bat on Ebay that was a very good deal.

I had that on one of my bats after it was repaired.

Is it in the joint of the splice or outside

I'm not quite sure, this is the message I got from him.
'When I was just getting my kit ready for saturday, I noticed on the xbow bat what seems to be a resin filler on the splice (pic attached). This seems to me that Mike couldn't get the face of the bat flush with the splice so filled in the gap with resin it feels like it runs the length of the splice'
Also I must commend him on his customer service as he didn't have any need to tell me about this and has offered me a full refund of the money I have paid so far if I don't want it anymore.
I have sent an email to Hawk regarding this, awaiting a response.
-
I'd think it was more likely a rehandle or refit if the handle did not splice well the first time, I doubt they would have filled it.
-
Okay,
Well as far as I know, the guy who I'm purchasing it from bought the bat from Hawk brand new and Hawk have a record about the bat, so I shall await the response from them regarding what has happened.
If it is a resin filling, what would this mean for the bat? Is it likely to need rehandling quicker than normal? Would it affect anything?
-
The filler is usually White and powdery, like Polyfiller, if this is resin then I would think it is glue.
-
I have to say it is great to have a topic about something useful to do with bats for a change!!
-
Bit of a shame, but the guy who I was buying it from removed the Hawk sticker on the face and apparently pulled away a bit of wood. He refunded the money I had paid towards the bat, just a massive shame as the bat looked a beaut.

I'll be cynical here and suggest you got too good a deal. If the seller knows it, sometimes happens that they tell a porkie pie after the sale to cancel it. Had that a couple of times with phones ,"oh on inspection when I was packing it, I found it didn't charge properly", what can you do? Watch the seller careful to see if the bat gets relisted.
-
Yeah that's what I kind of think as well. It was a very good deal to be honest, as I had been offered the same bat a couple of months ago for about £200 + postage and on Ebay he was struggling to sell it and I agreed a deal for £147 including postage.
I don't understand why he would have removed the sticker without consulting me as I had paid a desposit on the bat, however I'm not too fussed as I didn't need it. Just wanted to get it as it was a very good price. So all in all it's worked out alright for me.
-
Again, thinking the worst, strikes me as almost too honest. He probably got a better deal elsewhere. Did he send you pics with the sticker removed?
Glad to hear it worked out ok.
-
No he didn't send me any pictures of the bat after the sticker was removed. I did ask him for them as I wanted to see the state of the bat. However he hasn't replied to any emails I sent him after he refunded me.

yep, sounds a little dodgy. Haven't workout out that pitchero stuff either btw, not since they upgraded the platform and wiped all the profile pics :(
