Title: Cleaning Gloves?
Post by: AtBalfour on December 31, 2008, 01:37:04 PM
I have a really nice pair of BDM Aerodynamic's that I used for last season, they are still in really good condition, but I would like to clean them up a bit (both leather on padding and the palms)

This would save me spending another £30 for this coming season, which I am trying to cut down on the unnecessary spending!

Any ideas as to how I would clean them, palms especially?

Much Appreciated..

Not really sure about palms but it should be safe to clean the top bit with a damp cloth as long as you dry the gloves well after. Sorry cant be more helpful.

Had a look on the internet, some site forbid washing gloves, others welcome it! Really confusing.

I know this isn't what you mean, but I have always worn inners, the dirtiness is just the dye and dirt from the wet ball, probably from net sessions in the autumn. Sweat isn't a problem, just a tiny amount or wear and a bit of dirt.

you could try rubbing soap into the palms, my mate did it and it did work a bit. just take a block of soap out the packaging so its still dry and rub it into the palms applying a bit of pressure. Bit more risky but you could try wetting one corner  but not loads ( thats what i would try anyway)

Saddle Soap, they are 10 times and upwards the cost of gloves so the soap must not harm the leather. Get down to your local tack shop. Thanks to Bev for that tip....

if the leather on yur gloves is high quality it will harden if you dry them on a radiator..... u have to let leather to dry by itself
