Evening all,
I was using my Erus today and things were going very well until i got a knee high full toss and I put it straight down long off’s throat, at the time i thought the bat had made a different noise to what it had been making when i was hitting the ball earlier in the innings.
When i got back to the changing rooms i discovered why there was a different noise......the bat had completely snapped across the back and around to the front. :(
There are no seam indents on the face of the bat, so it has been knocked in properly.
Have emailed Andy at SAF about my problem...
Here are some pics

Have to say mate, that just looks like rotten luck!
-
Spewing!!!! How old was it mate?
And you got out in the process....rotten luck indeed!
-
I had a similar crack in a Salix bat. When I sent it to them they said it was a fault in the willow as it isn't meant to crack down the back, so they sent me a new one. Hard luck.

brand new, brought it as my xmas present form myself

this isn't down the back, this is across the back and around to the front
-
Can't be much holding that together!
-
Hopefully Andy gets back to you soon mate....that really sucks for you :-(
-
Had a bat break similar years ago apart from half the bat nearly hit square leg.
Sure Andy will sort you out as was in contact re how bat was doing + this was a bat bought 12 months ago

could be an option, are citylink/parcelforce open on sundays??
-
Just a handle fault, it is always a risk when splicing that a fault line can occur, nothing wrong with the way it is made or used, just bad luck.
-
I did this to a charlie french of mine last year and when i took it back to them all they said was it was a faulty piece of willow, apparently for a bat to break like that is a 'once in a lifetime thing' haa
-
any update on this?
-
Question for the refurb experts on here - is this kind of crack fixable at all or is this beyond repair?
-
i wud say none repairable looks like the wood has pretty much snapped it half. but i am no bat refurb expert
-
That isn't going to get repaired. You'd need to stick dowels down the length of the bat and you'd still always have a weakpoint where the join is, unless you can find an adhesive that is stronger than the wood itself.
Ona slightly odd note, I'd love to hit a ball hard and break a bat like that though, as long as it was an old and not a beloved bat....
-
any update on this?
a replacement is in the pipeline, by the good folk at SAF
-
Crikey, cant say fairer than that can you!
-
very impressed, good customer service I have to say!!! would like to know how many other bat sellers/makers would have done the same......
-
Great advantage of dealing with a smaller brand!
-
i would expect all manufacturers to have replaced a bat that broke that had been properly prepared (as long as was still under warranty)
-
found out last night that my replacement wont be ready for another 3 weeks, so it will have been 6 weeks from the date it snapped when the replacement arrives :-(
-
3 weeks is a long time. The batmaker must be away otherwise I don't understand that wait
-
nope he's not away, emailed me saying there was a 3 week waiting list
-
Fair enough people have orders, but if you have a bat that has broken while still under warranty, surely you are placed at the front of the list. But at least you will get one, so that's something to look forward too.
-
After 5 weeks of waiting it was fair to say i was starting to get a little peeved off with out a replacement bat, and thinking about telling you lot that the next time I'm in the market for a bat i wouldn't be going to SAF..........
Then i picked this up from the post office this morning........

this would have to be one of the best looking bats i have seen in the flesh. (15 grains I counted)
Now the question of would i use SAF again when I'm after a bat??.......more than likely

Looks lovely, what are the specs now?
-
Why no stickers?
-
looks bloody lovely! worth the wait then?
-
Why no stickers?
Andy had run out of stickers, he is picking up some more from the printers tomorrow
-

same as the original, 2.10 lowish middle, something that is good on the drive
-

Only just, lol. Andy might be a bit slow with the communication side of things sometimes, but he does now how to produce a cracking bat
-
Now that is my idea of perfection!!
-
Did you ask for it to come pre-dented or is that your handy work?
Looks very nice, but I'd have been rabid if it had taken 5 weeks to sort out.
-
I haven't received mine yet mate.It was posted same time as yours. :(
-
After receiving this bat on the 23rd of may blank, I'm still waiting for the stickers to be sent to me, after having a email sent to me on the 27 may from Andy saying he had received a new batch of stickers he would "TRY" and get them out in the post on the 28th.......nothing arrived, left it a couple weeks, still nothing, sent another email to Andy asking for them.........no reply, sent him another email on the 13th June asking for them, had a reply from Andy on the 15 jun saying he'll sort it for the weekend (18th-19th) June............still nothing has arrived.
Great customer service by SAF......me thinks not!!
-
i would be happy to have no stickers and a bat that looks like that. knock it in and get runs stickers don't make a bat

Not really the point, he has been continually promised and let down.

would you be happy if you brought a new TV and the store said "we will send you the remote when they arrive" the remote isn't crucial to the TV working but it would be nice to have it
-
I can understand how frustrated you are mate,Same here.I was promised a delivery this weekend,Fingers crossed. Its been 6 weeks. At least you have a bat.
-
Mine's coming Tuesday... Can't wait :)

If that was the case I wouldn't buy the TV, as the remote generally is more important than stickers....
You had the same choice...

I've been trying to order one for a few weeks but I cant get a response from Andy. Last time I heard from him he said they weren't taking any new orders for June and if I was looking for a new bat in the short term to contact Gary at redback. I guess no cricket company wants to turn away business, so they must be pretty behind on orders. I'm holding out till he can give me a accurate delivery time.

I think he posted on facebook that he had closed the June order book somewhere around the 13th of the month.

Andy has a full time job besides SAF so I'd think to ensure the balance of quality would mean limited numbers goin out the door. Tim is correct as Andy told me the same when we were at the AOC event last week.
-
I fully understand that. obviously he can only make so many bats at any given time, being a small boutique company. Personally I'm willing to wait to order as his bats speak for themselves. I just feel for the guys who have been waiting awhile. That's all.
