Recently when I've been fielding for about 15/20 overs (so just over an hour) I've getting a pain on the inside of my right leg, about a hands length from my ankle bone and more or less where the muscle meets the bone... Any tips on what's wrong there or how I can stop this pain?
Secondly I've decided I'd best invest in new spikes and I would like to know if anyone has any tips on buying new ones, as you cannot wear the spikes in the shop for 2/3 hours to test them out for comfort over long periods of time!

do you know if you have a low arch, neutral or high arch?
some new insoles may do you the world of good supporting your foot and ankle better...
but it may be the spikes.

I hadn't actually thought of my arch. From memory and from looking at wet footprints I think I've got a neutral arch.
I think I'll buy a new pair, as my little toe pokes through on the right shoe! Plus Mr. Student Loan is set to visit me tomorrow

neutral arch would probably mean its just the style of spikes that dont ge ton with your foot! splash that cash matey!

sounds like shin splints to me.
As Peplow said get new insoles and if you can take the spikes out if you have any in the heals. The insoles you get with new shoes are rubbish. I got special insoles that are meant to help with that sort of problem that you are facing.
-
did you used to get the pain?
if no then it may be a bodily probelm and not one with the spikes....(or maybe a bodily problem that the spikes have caused, but it will be hard to buy new ones if the problem cant be sourced and you have to wear for an hour for the pian to begin!)

It only seems to happen when I wear the spikes though. I think it may have started near the end of last season, and I have had no pain what so ever during the winter.
And it's a dull, aching pain so it does fit in with shin splints

Right, it's official. It's not the spikes, bought a new pair today and I've got the same pain. Do you think it could be shin splints? And what should I do about it?
Cheers

shin splint is all about rest mate sorry

Just ice them and get alot of rest between games.... I found that when I used puma shoes back in 09 I got them alot with the hard grounds and the amount of bowling I was doing... Switched to asics in 2010 and I havent really had any problems besides not being able to get a new pair when I want!!

The rubber soles i put on the trainers is very grippy on its own, a few of the guys also unscrew the spikes & screw in rubber golf clasps for hard ground.I did a very lightweight pair of pumas for a south african guy yesterday on trial for Somerset.
