Title: Gray-Nicolls Test Match Bat Making
Post by: thebigginge on May 04, 2011, 01:48:42 PM

I can now confirm that the Gray-Nicolls bat making stand will be attending the following test matches in 2011.

England vs Sri Lanka:   Swalec Stadium
England vs Sri Lanka:   Lords
England vs Sri Lanka:   Rose Bowl
England vs India:         Lords

We will be demonstrating and taking orders for custom made bats. I am unable to state the prices of these offers as this is specific to each ground.

Cheers

Alex

Hang on, different prices for different grounds? Why's that then?  ???

I'm sure that if anyone using the service mentions the forum, then it would be a heads up to GN that the customer is likely to be extra fussy and won't accept anything short of the specified specification (try saying that quick!)

...and no, I'm not after a bat at the moment

Regional Price Discrimination. They would all do it given the chance, just its an obvious chance to do it when they go to percieved poorer parts of the country. They dont have to advertise the price to say people going to Lords so it will be more expensive there for the same service, they just dont know it is!

So the northerners get cheaper bats? Pah! I shall have my valet write them a letter..........

It may depend on what the offer is - sometimes with Lords they throw in a tour as well hence why is costs more.

I somehow doubt it will be the £150 it was last year...

Either way, I should be at both Lords games at some stage :)

All days at all the test matches stated.

We don't set the prices, it's down to the individual grounds to decide.

Sorry I can't be of more help.

The grounds you are at decide the price of a product you produce, make and have the intelectual property for? presumably you must give them a guide? Or is this the price of having a stall at the test match ground?

I cannot comment on what the grounds will charge for the goods.

We give a RRP for each item but if the shops within in the grounds want to either reduce or increase it that is up to them.

I can say that this year we will be offering both custom made 5* and L.E bats. These will vary in price.

Or maybe it's a sale made through the retailer at the ground, with them setting the price?

I think my confusion really is that GN have a stall at the grounds and you speak directly to Alex or one of his accomplices - but if the prices are set through the ground shop that would make sense.
Either way I think that having a bat making service at the test matches does add something so people get so see how some of the bats are made.

Well I was there, 4 days behind the "Really Welsh Pavillion" and then the final day under the grand stand opposite the food court, I think the 200 or so people that turned up to watch the final day really appreciated me being there LOL! Had a good time meeting some of the T.Dilshan and K.Sangakarra who bought there bats along to be worked on.  It was a good week for us, altough the rain did limit the amount of making and demonstrating I could do. We will be at Lords so hopefully see some of you there

I might try to go up on Monday if I can sneak out of work (will need to ensure I am not spotted in the pavillion by the boss though:))

Cheers for postiing the picture, we normally take a display unit rather than the gazebo but due to some technical issues we weren't able to bring it, however it will be at Southampton next week and back at Lords for the India test match.

The stand is normally quiet during play.

We have a selection of classic GN blades for people to look at.

I believe instead of there being 2 price points (e.g 5* and L.E) we are just doing an L.E grade that the Lords shop would normally retail at between £325-350. We are selling them at £225

I'm afraid to say that no, I have not been on an insaner weight loss program, I am still the size of a healthy 3rd team prop!

That is a picture of our head UK Bat Maker John Gasson who retires in 3 days time.

Looking forward to the day, as far as I know it will be extended to 2 days if there is enough interest!
