Title: Opinions please
Post by: Colesy on May 07, 2011, 10:47:01 PM
Right, due to the terminal nature of my one and only bat my parents have agreed to get me a bat for my birthday (in August), however because of my bat breaking I am trying to get this purchase brought forward lol.

I have two thoughts as to how to spend my budget...

Two good bats such as identical GM Icon 808

OR

One really good bat such as an M&H custom.

I go through bats quite quickly (apparently) so this puts me off the M&H option hover I know that mainstream bats aren't the best value for money (thanks to this forum.)

Over to you...

I was just looking on Uzi and they are offering 2 'Superior' bats for £239.99. Don't know much about them, but I'm sure you can find out by Asad. Might be worth looking at.

However out of those options I would go for the M&H, if you can afford a very nice bat it would be a shame to turn it down I guess.

I'd contact one of the many great pod shavers on this forum and ask how they could help you, if they can. I think you'll get a great result that way...

I agree. I would go for a top quality custom bat if I had the choice and there are many to choose from.

Just get a decent bat, like the M&H. I'm a huge M&H fan and my current bat is the best bat I've ever used, made a huge difference to my game. Used it 6 times and hit 250 odd runs with it, confidence in your bat= confidence in your batting IMO

What's their policy on breakages? Just in case!

They usually fix or replace anything up to a year after purchase (1 Year Warranty).... If not, they usually do a decent repair job for fairly cheap.....

So if you were looking at two GM 808 bats I am going to guess your price range is around 300.

If I was you Id look to buy a real good bat around the 200 mark, I mean you can get Bluerooms for 200, then spend the other 100 on a good forum buy.. I mean there have been a few decent redbacks on here for 100 recently.

Haha it is true. The only forum member/brand I have bought a bat from is Mike. I have recommended team mates to brands on here so I've had a go with a vantage and redback.

Thanks Mike, I'll be in touch one way or another soon.

Haha brilliant. Having only played for 5 years and not having a job does have it's affects on 'the nice things' such as custom mades lol.

Ayrtek helmet - check
New bat/s - on it
Morrant pads - next

I have found out that I hate using other people's bats so according to you guys the custom made route looks to be the way forward.

Will see what I can conjure up!

I have a nightmaric (new word) situation where my mum tells me I have to 'wait until August' for a new bat. I will ask my step-dad who is sports mad as he might understand that the season will be as good as over then.

So atm I have a Purist Original (bit of a plank), Puma Ballistic 4000 and what I think is a GN Powerbow in my bag to try. Not keen on any of them but have no choice atm.

but seriosuly what are you gonna use??
Title: Re: Opinions please
Post by: Colesy on May 09, 2011, 10:04:06 PM
Haha well The Purist has a small middle and has seen better days, the Puma picks up nice but not used it in anger and not used the Powerbow although it's massive for the weight and feels nice. Whichever goes best should be what I use.

I broke my leg a few years ago a week or so before the season started. Only thing that kept me going was playing before seasons end. Made it with two weeks to go and picked up a plank of a GM ( borrowed off non cricketer- in days when you used the club bag bats, however dodgy!) and hobbled out to bat. 52 runs later hobbled back in. Wrong weight, terrible bat but my mind was so determined........
