Saw this on another forum, so thought I would post it on here...
What was your first bat? Still have it? Did you love it?
This is my first bat, size 5 Slazenger V500 5Star Pro-Tech. It's seen better days, had it for over 10 years now. When I got it I loved it, however there were still better bats out there as this didn't 'ping' like other bats my friends had. It didn't matter as much as I was more of a bowler back then but I still used to open the batting as well.
Just used for a bit of garden/french cricket every now and again, I should really give it a bit of a clean up really. It used to have one of those meshed sheets over it so I've never seen the actual grains of the bat.

-
Classic Bat Company (RIP) Limited Edition.
Donated to my club once it lost it's ping and now seems to have sadly disappeared.
-
The Keynsham company?
-
Yea that's the one, they had Tresco as their main sponsored player at the time and Chris Broad was heavily involved and actually showed me round their showroom. Shame they didn't have much success as it was nice to have a company like that in the Bristol area.
-
GN 100 Single Scoop
-
Full size slazenger v100 still at the parents and was a beauty
-
GN Powerspot Tufcoat that didn't have a middle. Had it for a season, and replaced it with a Slaz V12 Panther Polyarmour.
-
The first bat I ever used in a game was a ss turbo 333 Harrow which felt really heavy at the time...
My first bat was a Slaz V100 armourtec size 6
-
Think it was a GN Powerspot, Slater signature or something. Trusty old Kashmir Willow!
-
County Ultimate destroyer. Absolutely amazing for the cost of it. Was great until someone at school borrowed it and managed to hit the top of the metal spring stumps putting a massive dink in the middle. Made a good beach cricket bat afterwards though.
-
Phoenix Platinum Harrow, was a lovely bat until it felt apart into pieces, but taped it back up (mummified it) with electrical tape, it now feels like it weighs 3lb 5 and is in the shed!
-
Duncan Fearnley Gold 5 Star was my first bat,
-
Slazenger v100 panter, great memories :(
-
Cant remember the exact model but it was a newbury which had a white cloth like covering, this was in 1984
-
My first bat was a Symonds of some sort.......I just remember that it was the heaviest bat anyone in the team had so therefore it was the best.... :D
-
size 4 open championship autograph. Wanted to be gower when i was a kid!
-
Mine was a SG Sunny Tonny which was purchased in 1990. The next one was a SS and followed by SG Slammer. All of them cracked.
-
I was spoilt, i had 3 bats.
DF Extra cover
SS Jumbo
Kookabura Big bird

An Open Championship, not around anymore though.

Slazenger V800 Panther, thems were the days.
I had one of these! The orange and black one with the little cutouts all along the back?
-
GN 100 Single Scoop
Ditto for me too
Who remembers the old Symonds Tuskers?
-
Symonds Tusker? Awesome bats, they re-made some a few years back but then Symonds went bust again. They occasionally appear on Ebay, sure there was one on a couple of weeks back....
I would buy one if it came up at a decent price, pretty extreme profile if I remember! Didn't Dean Jones use one for a while?
-
Mine was a Kookaburra Bubble plus, size 6. I've still got it some where, I think it's toe has become de-laminated
-
The year was 1975.
The bat was a Gray Nicolls Cricketer - Ian Chappell autograph.
Was too heavy for me, but I grew intro it and made thousands of runs with it.
My mum and dad have kept it, otherwise I would have thrown it out. But dear old mum and dad are sentimental.
-
Slaz V1200 panther. £25, JJB. Bargain!

Use to have an old Tusker! Was Ancient, could just make out the stickers on it.....had the worst pickup ever haha. A club I used to play for had it in their club kit, so I bought it from them for $50. Shouldn't of ever gotten rid of it.
Classic though.....the cut-out in the back of the bat with the other cut-out kinda bit down the toe of the bat
-
My first was an old duncan Fearlnly classic, never got past 10 with it, still loved it to death!
-
Something called a terry-armoured Clipper. Not from a brand I have seen before or since, but it was size 5 and I still have it somewhere. Covered in this weird stuff that would gradually chip off with use.
Soon followed by a proper 405 in Harrow. Glorious.
-
...can people remember their first softs? I had 3d's own brand pads & gloves. Pads were canvas & amongst the 1st generation of velcro straps. Gloves were sausage style, with crumby cotton palms & itchy elastic cuffs (before the days of towelling cuffs)
-
Yeah I had some V500 Gloves in Youths and some youths V100 Pads - Still got them somewhere I think
-
Can't remember exactly....wouldve been GN's though....was totally obsessed by them as a brand when I was a youngster!
