Sorry if this has a topic already but im looking for some information on the above. Basically i have made a couple of bats from part mades for team mates. One such team mate used his for the first time this weekend, Drove a yorker and has cracked the toe( round crack as if the bottom of the bat has pushed backwards and part of the face of the blade is now pushed out and not flush with the surface) unsure if that makes sense. He insists that he has spent an hour every lunchtime for the last week knocking it in but by the crater seam marks that are on it i know he hasnt. there is also no visable signs of little disc dents which you normally get with knocking in. Im not suggesting im a bat maker but where do bat makers stand when they have issues like this when bats have clearly been used well before they are ready? I remember buying a bat when i was a kid that came with a knocking in guide. I have offered to repair it ( not a major job) but he wants a new one.

Did you offer him a warranty on it? Most batmakers offer a 12 month warranty, although, not knocking it in properly, it is his fault.
If you look at the warranties offered by the makers on their websites, they don't tend to cover bats that haven't been knocked in properly, either clearly stating this, or stating that preparation that has not been done according to recommendations will affect guarantees.

In offering to repair it, you have gone above and beyond the call of duty. You absolutely should not replace it.

i didnt offer a warranty with the bat as im far from a bat maker. i just do it for fun. the warranty info you have supplied pretty much backs up my first thoughts. If he had prepared it properly and the fault was down to me then id more than happily replace it but as you said the repair does more than required.

I suspect the guy was using a cheap ball and there is very little you can do about it.
Whether you offer him a replacement it up to you, but presuming you didn't charge him much more than cost, he wont be much of a mate if he doesn't understand the situation.

i think thats the issue in general with most of the leagues. The balls we use arent the best, League supplied so they get a lot of discount on a cheapish ball. I didnt charge him much at all to be honest. Mates rates. ive spoken to him and he is going to accept the repair. thanks for the advice though guys

But you will find many manufacturers do not cover toe breaks and I know for sure that Kookaburra don't for example.
