Hi all
Have recently broken another Kookaburra Big Kahuna (the second in as many years). I will therefore be looking for a new bat when the funds are available (probably near to the end of the season). Both have cracked at the toe, whether this is relevant to quality, I'm not sure.
I am looking for something 2:12+, big edges, and relatively low middle (as I play mostly off the front foot in the 'V'), budget around the £150-£175 mark for the bat alone. And from reading other posts on this forum, I know what most are going to say, but nice looking softs to go with it would be prefereable. Have been looking at Redback Allegiance, h4l 666 Monster, G+M Icon DXM+, Puma Calibre 3000, Newbery 335 etc. I'm aware that I will need to pick some up to find out which one is best for me, but quality wise, does any-one have any advice? Also, being 6'4", would I be looking at either a LB, LH, SH, LB+LH (if it even exists)
Regards
Nick

Hi mate - in terms of quality Redback is streets ahead of most other bats I've owned. Can't speak highly enough of them. Have had other top brands and boutique bats - some of them quite poor, but Redback is noticeably different class.
Hope this helps

Cheers pal, that was kinda what I had thought. It's just whether that price range will give me a better bat if I look elsewhere as I'm aware I don't have the best budget available.
-
To be honest the £180 I paid for my allegiance premier was well worth it had to sell it in the end as I lent it to a team mate who won leagues top batsman using it so wouldn't give it up! Having said that had a kahuna 09 that has just died and was awesome for less money, also have a kahuna from last year but nowhere near as good.
What I would say is I'd be happy to buy a redback 'unseen' as it were knowing it would be great other makes I'd want to pick up and see in the flesh before committing. Though I'm a big believer that there are loads of bargains out there if you have the confidence in your own opinion you can easily pick up a cracker for £100 ish new

£175 will get you a bloody good bat on here! maybe not quite some of the ones in your list depending on what grade you go for but i bet someones got something to suit you on here.
If your looking for a low middle, most of the ones in your list sound good, maybe not a newbery gt335 though! I myself have 2 H4L's which are great.

I've an Instinct custom LHLB (here http://tinyurl.com/6jzxmkh) that is stunning. Also, my H4L LHLB is a great bat.
Alternatively, depenendent on what you want, I also have an M&H S6 LHLB that I no longer need and I'd be willing to part with for £150 including postage (here http://tinyurl.com/6dckzmb ) which is already kncoked in and used in a couple of nets. It's 2.11 but you can't tell from looking at it! Lovely bat, incredibly well finished and a bargain at that price, just found that I prefer the Instinct.
I also have waiting to be knocked in this H4l LHLB.... http://tinyurl.com/H4L666, which is a beautiful looking, beautfully finished bat. I guess the point is that most of the small manufacturers on here produce very well finished bats (H4L and Instinct are as good as Redback), and will make you an LHLB if you ask them. If you want a ready made one, then the S6 is there.

Thanks mate, looks lovely but unfortunately you will probably have got rid of it by the time I have the funds to pay for it. Just finishing uni you see, so its time for a bit of saving before I find a job lol. If you don't mind me asking, how tall are you Tim if you are using an LHLB?
Cheers

Hi nick
Can't reccomend H4L enough they are truley great sticks I'm going to buy another Aswell! I'm sure Matt can sort you out as he did with me. For a rough size guide I'm 6'4 and I use a LH. I've heard a LB can help with pickup.

Second that! My Long Blade 666 Monster is superb and mine is just a 3 star bat for the budget you've got a custom made 5 star would make a superb buy!
And Tommo is right the LB picks up great!! and im 6ft 1

6'5". I have big hands, hence the LH.

Just to save you some trouble, a newbert GT335 is a very high middled bat, so as you're after a low middled bat I wouldn't consider it an option.

Yes you're quite right, I think I was probably looking at a B52 and got a bit confused :-[

Krakatoa has a really nice low middle profile. Worth a look.

Hattori!

Tim, have you still got that M&H? I might be able to get the funds a bit sooner than I thought. Whereabouts are you, if you don't mind me asking?
-
Take a trip over to Taunton mate, grab yourself a chunky M&H :)

buchs
how big are the distinctions in 2.9?
-
Yeah thinking about it mate, probably not got quite that much though so am thinking about a trip to redback or an off the shelf icon +. How you get on with your call up to the ones last weekend?

Very big middles! Fairly thin edges but a very pronounced profile. Was playing a few shots with my mates last night...

Sounds good, I really like the profiles on both :) And pretty good thanks mate, slapped 52 off 29 balls against Stapleton which was nice :) You in the 2's yet?

Me? Yes, it is still around. I am in London.

Ah that's a shame, I would have liked to try it out. Well, when all the funds clear, I will bear it in mind. Where is the middle on it?
-
It's a similar shape to the solution, so has a relatively low middle.
