New South Wales (NSW) batsman David Warner and Aiden Blizzard of Victoria will use the double blade bats for the first time in Australia's Twenty20 tournament.
Warner, tried the new bat in the Sydney Cricket Ground (SCG) nets for the first time Sunday and will unveil it in the Twenty20 match against South Australia at Adelaide Oval Tuesday. Blizzard will use it for Victoria against Western Australia (WA) at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG) Thursday.
The Sydney Morning Herald reported Monday quoting one of the manufacturers of the bat that the design is legal but will give an extra edge to the batsman.
The option of using the back of the bat to reverse sweep or reach forward and "lap" a ball over their shoulder will give innovative batsmen such as Warner more time when playing shots. But the batsman does not believe it will change the balance between bat and ball.

OOOOH Should be great to watch! I'll be interested to see how he does and whether he actually uses the back of the bat...
-
Tbh I could see him trying to use the back of the bat for his first ball! would be a massive Mental boost for him!
-
say one double sided bat on Laver Wood forum shop.... looks so wierd, bland, characterless, disgusting....

The Laver double sided bat is minging! I believe the Gray-Nic version is a different design. A more conventional shape, but with a flat hitting area on the back, as oppose to the whole of the back being flat. The Laver looks like something you would use to row a boat.

ha i thought that aswell i prefer the GN one but tbh dont like the concept just manipulate the face you have its easier!
-
is it availible to watch in the uk?
-
would be funny after all this hype if he did not use it or got out befor he could

-
You could probably watch it on my2p2 or justin.tv.
-
its absolute tosh.

Warner hit an absolutley massive six off Shaun Tait onto the roof of the Adelaide Oval with the Double sided bat against South Australia, but then he changed back to his Predator Max after a while
-

This bit is quite interesting too:
Davis revealed Slazenger was a week away from releasing a new bat designed by Danny Waugh, a younger brother of former Test stars Steve and Mark -- called the Clubba -- in competition with Gray-Nicolls, maker of Warner's double-sided bat.
"The Waugh bat has a slightly longer handle for batsmen who go the tonk, no shoulders and a power zone.
"While we're marketing for the 50-over form of the game, it can also be used for Twenty20."

Sounds like a mallet or a baseball bat! As much I like all the innovation and techie aspects of cricket bats at least try and keep the bat looking as traditional as possible.
-
Sorry to move slightly away from topic, however I cant find the double bat on the laver and wood forum. Any chance of a link?

Could be a bit like the Newbery Excalibur kind of shape also?
-
Yep my initial thoughts as well Tom - but the long handle and power zone bit made me think different
-
You know, if he wanted to be really good he could try and use a normal bat and use the back of that. Now that would be good.
-
At least it would be more of a level playing field.
The thing is cricket is becoming a more of a game of big hits, fancy shots and TV revenues. The bias towards the batsmen is increasing ever more, the new ICC regulations with Law 6 have helped. But this when a bowler has to announce a change of bowling [eg. around the wicket] and the ball gets changed because it is mishap or prematurely scuffed so that is gives the bowler an advantage is all slightly contradictory. That is coming from me the guy that likes bats!!!!!!
-
Its all been done before and was not a success them, Warsop did the double sided bat, Newbery and Slazenger the shoulderless one. Its just being reinvented for a market that has not seen them for boost sales.
-
Yep I know Mike but from what I've read, "Quilt Winders...." they just turned the bat around after the face one side got over used. They didn't change the style of shot they played that's the bit that gets me.
