Title: Canterbury Cut Pads Review
Post by: sultanofswing on January 06, 2009, 01:49:43 PM
Leo asked me to do a review of my canterbury cut pads. Got these pads from mike (talisman) for bargain price. These pads are described as being 625g in weight as opposed to aero p1s which is 566g and normal pads around 950g. I can say they are very light, i had some tendulkar style pads before these and the canterburys are much lighter. The straps are nice and thick so dont dig in your legs, top strap has padding on it which also helps.

I have only used them in 1 net so far and got i was hit on the pads by a bowler whos bowls around 75-80 and i could not feel anything. Unlike the aero pads these pads dont dent on impact however they do rebound well, so maybe a few extra leg byes available lol. Becuase of the lightness you do sacrifice a little in flexiblity however i have played the sweep with these pads and i didnt really notice any difference. The top of the pads provide extra protection compared with normal pads due to the angled cut shape. This doesnt seem to interfere with my gloves at all. After one net they feel pretty comfy and i have become accustomed to them. I dont know how they will wear but the face is wipe clean so shud be easy to keep new looking.

Will just have to await other peoples comments now lol

Hope this helps Leo

Straps are red mate...
They look beautiful, just wondered how tall are you and what size are they? Would I be able to get away with a "Small Mens" pair at 5' 10.5 ;)

I dont know but as they look pretty fitted to the leg I'd guess they would be easier :)

TBH I don't like them at all. One junior got these at my club last year and was called "Drain Pipes"! Haha

im 6ft 2 and i got medium and they seem to fit perfect for me. are very easy to run are quite wrapped round your leg so nothing to get in the way.

i am sure the comment on 'drainpipes' will not effect me too much lol

Well i sported some aero p1's last year and they were referred to as Simons "Tampons" so drain pipes sound like a walk in the park!!!

leo, i went from younth pads to large boys canterbury cut pads and they lasted me one game, that was end of 2006 season (bout 5ft 6/7 then) and i then went straight into mens pads, they are however now owned by ukkiwi is it shorter but likes small pads, i dont rekon you will fit into them

and they squeke like hell on your shoes, if they still fitted me then i would have got rid of them for that reason alone

I think they are alot closer to traditional pads than aeros or maybe even flextechs

The pads arent to everyones taste but then if everyone liked just one product the market wouldnt exist.

We still have some Surrey Brown sized medium for novelty value if anyone wants a set for nets/practice etc. Open to offers or may put the on eBay.

Cheers

Tom
