This is the second bat i have made, the first was a mid middle this one is a low middle, but is it a bit to extreme weight is 2.14 (i like a heavier bat) but still have to bind it shoe goo it and grip it what does every one think.
I was thinking to have ago with it as i could always raise the middle/reduce edges at a later date if needed
My current match bat is 3 pound and i got 131 not out with it a couple of weeks ago
All coments welcome,good or otherwise
Cheers Mike

Hi Mike - you have made my Friday that someone on the forum has actually made a bat (other than a brand)!
Picture loading instructions are here... (teach a man to fish and all that)

that looks awesome. Really good work.
-
thats a chunky bit of willow. how does it pick up? does it feel heavy but pick up well or feel bottom heavy?
im in the process of making a handful of bats. will upload images once i get the internet back at home. restricted from doing so at work. proper pain.
-
looks really good. great job.
-
With such a low middle and weight it is never going to pick up like a feather,it is a bit bottom heavy but that is to be expected, but not overly heavy.
I have tapped it up and i am very very happy with the response.
i will take a couple of better pictures of it to show mild concaving.
Now buzz has shown me the light i may post a few more pics!!!
-
Excellent work, looks really, really nice! Good to see someone making a bat in their own time. I love the profile, reminiscent of a 2'14 DF Retro I have of Mr Hosk's at the moment....and that's a stunning bat.
-
Looks a cracker. Well done and fair play to you.
-
Are you selling this bat ?
-
where was the cleft from?
-
i was also going to ask whether you will be selling - if so let me know price details
-
P'med you johners
I Have no intention selling unless an offer i cannot refuse, the first bat i made got 109 on its first (and only as yet) outing by my son, this one i am making is to my specs not his.
It was a stunning bit of willow and i have great hopes for it.
-
thanks. well it does look a good cleft. pretty enjoyable shaping them especially when they come out like that.
-
The cleft came from a very good source that is not a sponser so i will keep that to myself, but i had free access to all of the clefts with a mallet an narrowed it down to this one. and i am pleased with the choice
-
lucky if you get that option. glad your happy with what you got. lets hope it performs as good as it looks once its finished and ready to go
-
sounds good tbf
was it hawk by chance ?
-
No it wasn't Hawk and thats the last comment on the supplier :)
Here is the finished bat, unless after i use it i feel that it should be altered!!
It is smack on 3pound finished (what i wanted) unless i put on a clear face, undecided at the moment.
Binding added and Gripped and shoe goo to the toe 2 coats of linseed oil and 2 hours of knocking
I left the ovaled handle slightly larger at the bottom so only 1 grip needed with no loss of feel,it just felt nice to me.
Overall happy with the outcome, and it feels nice and responsive off the mallet
I have put on the fifty pences everyone seems to do it,a good guage for size i suppose
Not the best of pics, but as good as my old camera will allow.

Great stuff fella. Looks like a top effort and I hope it plays beautifully for you. There will be a nice feeling of accomplishment walking out with a vat you made for yourself :)
-
You have massive wood
-
this looks like a complete beast!
Certainly you need to think about the BES measuring system for those edges....

-
Very nice effort. It does appear as though you've oiled very close to the splice.
-
That is not a bat, it is a club! That'll scare off oppo bowlers!
-
Looks really good, top effort fella and I hope you get many many runs with the bat.
-
Looks great, massive, but great!
Well done, I've got a couple in the shed I need to take some pics of and get them up on here.
Thanks
Ross

After applying the clear face and edging strips, i used this bat in 2 games (33no and 9no),the bat is near enought the same weight as my match bat but with such a low middle i found i was too slow to the ball,so decided to remove a bit of weight and raise the middle a bit,so is this the finished bat?? I hope so !!here's some pics as it is now

What did you use for taht concaving??
-
Hand and eye co-ordination!!lol
There is no magic its just wood at the end of the day,no matter what tools you use,you just have to get the wood to the shape that you want,be it draw knives spoke shaves travishers planes sanders etc.
