Looks like his time is over, does this mean that they are going to continue with Little Phil? I bloody hope so ;)

Personally i would have kept him a little longer, but everyone has to stop at some point.
Hopefully Little Phil will grow into Big Phil and acquire a technique!
-
More money and less hassle playing in the IPL. (out to pasture)
-
Wouldn't of thought he would be first in line for an IPL slot with his style of batting. Hardly what one would call a big hitter
-
I could understand if Hughes killed it in the ashes, but he didn't and only averaged 16. Katich has scored the second most runs in the world (behind Cook) over the last 3 years in test cricket. I can understand that they want to groom someone, but he is clearly a better option atm. Also, where is Ponting going to bat? Khawaja is a Number 3, but I dont see Ponting taking Clarke's or Hussey's batting spot. I rekon Khawaja or Ponting may actually open from now.
-
Terrible desicion. Makes no sense at all & Hughes just isn't good enough.
-
Maybe he just said "Yoo're keeping Ricky? Right, I'm outta here".
-
He said by text that be would wait for the dust to settle before commenting publicly.
-
I doubt if any IPL franchise will take him
-
Simon Katich has absolutely teed off at the selectors - in association with Stuart Clark.
surely that will cause a stir - I can't believe you would drop a batsman who has averaged 50 for the last 18 months... (especially in favour of Phillip Hughes...)
-
the aussie selectors don't know what they are doing. Hussey was left out of the world cup squad initially as well-that was bizzare
Kaitch is a good player and at 35 not too old
The aussie teams in the past have cast off the older guys becuase there was quality coming thru...at the moment they dont have top class younger players like they have done
Hughes aint the answer either unless he goes back to basics with his technique...
-
My views on Katich have improved significantly following this, someone needed to tell the selectors that they're utter clowns, and Kat's gone and done it, good on him. Why drop a man in such good form?! Completely lost on me...
-
Aussie selectors have no idea.
Not taking Hussey for the WC.
Not picking Haurtiz for the ashes when he was clearly the best spinner (average of 34) and picking Doherty who has a first class average of 47
Now dropping Katich who has been the best Australian and 2nd best batsmen in the world, over the last 3 years.
Absolute bloody joke!
-
some of us English fans are still wondering how Hauritz did not get picked in those Ashes
he can bat too,if I remember right he got a couple of tons straight after gettign dropped in the shield games.
I think Hauritz is a very good spinner myself
Doherty i've no idea how he got a game for the Aussies.....
-
I just think of the raft of tremendous Aussie players from the 90's who didn't get much of a chance (think of Stuart Law or even McGill - although to a lesser extent) and then you look at the parcity of options now... unbelievable. What in the system has changed?
-
Yeah, Hauritz got 2 hundred's in a row for NSW. The selectors are either in denial or they are on some serious drugs if they think they are doing their jobs properly.
-
Are you sure that the chief selector hasn't got English roots?
We would far rather have the English bowlers against Hughes than against the classier Katich!!
Hughes is far easier to get out and is not even half the batsman that Katich is! Crazy times!! :(
Maybe Hughes has been working on his game and has improved a massive amount? ???
-
Hughes got 120 odd in the first innings of the shield final and got 96 in the second, so he found something. Katich got 97 in the first and not many in the second, but Hughes is no where near the class of Katich.
-
What a weak and disheveled looking Australian team it will look without Katich up top ..
-
Don't forget that Hussey used to open, so its not like Australia has no hope, but Katich is deffinately miles better than Hughes
