Title: What's the furthest/shortest distance you have travelled for an away game?
Post by: mdl_1979 on June 10, 2011, 08:03:41 AM
I'm playing an away game tomorrow, but the ground we're playing at is less than 100 yards from my flat.  This got me thinking: what's the shortest distance you've travelled for an away game, and what's the furthest you've gone (excluding tours)?

Shortest: Tomorrow - playing at Leverstock Green

Furthest: Probably Liverpool to Leeds, when I was at Merchant Taylors School and we crossed the Pennines to play Leeds Grammar

the Met Police Ground at Imber Court is my closest ground it is a gentle stroll actually the clubhouse is further from the pitch than my house! Have travelled a couple of hours to play an MCC game before now.

Not sure if tours count, but I have played in Nepal and Holland too...

Closest is about 600 yards, just round the corner. Furthest is from Hull to Stamford, just over 100 miles each way!

Furthest I've travelled for an away game is approximately 4,700 miles....

Used to regularly travel 65 miles one way for home games.

Once took my team 3 hours to travel from Marlow to Teddington, West London. It's only 30 miles but the Chelsea Flower Show and Kempton Races were on :-(

One unlucky player had to wait an additional hour for a car to stop burning on the hard shoulder of the M40!

Shortest game is probably around 2 miles........ Ive travelled over 3 hours to a game countless times! Mostly because of traffic around the Bristol area!

Shortest trip I have done from a home ground to an away game is a road width - Marlow CC and Marlow Park CC are seperated by a dirt road. 5/6 yards?

One of Johan, do Southgate play Southgate Adelaide? They share the same field from memory.

Just reminded me, we ground share with another club who we played 2 weeks ago. It was an away game for us, but obviously it was at our home ground. I'd imagine quite a few clubs are similar.

Home ground for me is about 8/9 miles away from my flat.  But tomorrow I can just roll out of bed and walk over the road for an away game.  Lovely.  Am doing a bbq for our guys after the game as well.  Fingers crossed the rain stays away!

Shortest is probably Almondsbury or Stoke Gifford

Furthest I've played an indoor game in Ipswich and outdoor either Stroud or Calne.

Our 3s and 4s are in the same league this year so it is technically an away game, but they'll be playing at our home ground.

never played in a high enough league to travel too far for away games - Brecon is probably the furthest (about an hour).

in my non-league football career though my longest ever away trip was 180 miles from Lincoln to Kendal. Urgh.

Merchant taylors, I love playing there, scored my first county 50, first county 100 and still haven't lost playing there, my favorite ground of all time.

We talking about the pavillion with each changing room on opposite sides and the roof balcony up top? Love playing there :)

This year, our closest is Minehead, and our furthest is every other week when travelling to Bristol. So Minehead's must be even worse lol, being an exra 20 miles further away than us.

Although the pavillion at MTS Crosby does/did have the changing rooms facing each other, though upstairs just had the scorer's box.

I don't play for Southgate but I'm sure they do play. I score for Southgate, though they've been trying to get me to go there lol!
I play for Highgate, nearest game has been a mile to Old Finchleans last weekend.
Furthest was the weekend before - 50 miles to Cublington (Golders' lot!).

Though Southgate and SACC don't like each other much I don't think ;) - swamidude can tell you...

We share our ground in midweek with another team, so we don't have to travel far when we play them away :)

Yep, in Crosby, near Liverpool.  We never came down to play the southern lot at cricket, though we did come down to spank them at rugby.

I play for two teams, one on Saturday, and another on Sunday (One only plays on Saturday the other only on Sundays so works really well) and they had a friendly match so that was most likely the closest away match at about 3 miles.

Furthest was most likely playing away at Caister-on-Sea which I had to do twice within the space of about 3 weeks(Cup game then League game) Luckily we won both so the journey wasn't as bad. From my house to their ground it is roughly 26 miles.

Shortest trip to an away game has to be a whole 30 seconds. As it's a walk across a car park from my old teams home ground and a local rivals!
