Title: Marcus Trescothicks bat handle set up
Post by: 19reading87 on June 20, 2011, 02:06:40 PM
What tape does he use when doing his particular set up and does he tape at the top of the bat to?

If anybody has a pic that would be greatly received,

Ta

White elastoplast. Nothing at the top of the handle.

Best photo I've got, doesn't really show the shape.

Actually thinking on it, think Tresco was in a GM batmaking video, possibly talking about handles, not 100% sure though! Worth a look

What does the tape do then?

I think he increases the thickness of the bottom hand with it but could be wrong

Would a simple half grip just not do that?

Yeah but depends how he puts his hands on the bat, i use tape rather than a half grip. It goes thicker in the middle into thinner towards the end whereas a half grip your hand has to fit to it.

That's the bat he used to score a century against the WI in the ICC Champions Trophy final...

Good point calum. What tape do you use?

Oh really, even better! Had plenty nets use though! Do you own it Tom? Just any tape i can find for the lower handle, electrical tape, fabric tape, it's only a small amount just to make it feel a bit more comfy. Also if I have a bat with an oval handle I tend to use a bit more

I might try some cloth tape on my new cook and see how it goes...

Held that bat, felt horrible to me! Just goes to show what suits one person doesn't suit everyone. Oh and the handle shape was disgusting!

this can work too.

Personally I would just use a "half grip" cut to suit the handle - but this padded strapping tape can work. I have used this in the past to create a more oval feel to a handle - well eggshape in that case!

I don't suppose you have any more pictures of that GM Tom? Like showing the profile and concaving and stuff?

He is always up for an autograph or photo. Even up for a chat when I stopped him on the stairs in te pavilion!

Tried putting tape in tonight and didn't like it, it gave the bat a horrible hard/solid feeling in the handle with an uneven shape. Disappointing :( ....

He injured his ankle in the T20 1/4 final against Notts, he landed awkwardly on it. Don't know whether that was a sprain/strain which has got better because he hasn't rested. Or whether its anything more than that ie. achilles
