Title: traditional bat or a monster bat?
Post by: Seabo95 on July 07, 2011, 10:34:01 AM
A friend of mine has a huge spyder bat and a warsop platinum and the warsop seems to ping a lot better even though it is the smaller of the two bats?
i am wondering is it better to get a traditional bat or a monster because these big bats seem to have a lot of wasted wood!
any thoughts?

Probably best with a traditional bat if you had the choice, higher spine is more important. More wood behind the middle for better response.
Though I've still not learnt that  :-[

i have 2.12 h4l, a tim keeley lam and a3.2 m&h.

the m&h is out of this world! but then i think it should be with the amount of wood on it.

i belive the bigger the bat the harder u can hit the ball. unless its a cheap (No Swearing Please) over dried plank

Simmy, what model is your M&H though? Most of their bats are a traditional shape. Yours just happens to have a lot of wood! Big bats do allow you to hit the ball harder, no doubt, they're just harder to play cross bat shots as the weight slows you down.

It also all depends on what type of batsman you are, personally i prefer traditional shaped bats with a high spine.

I have never really got the 'thick edges' fad that seems to be the vogue currently. Can't see any benefit to it. Give me a high spine, thin edges and a nice pickup and balance everytime.

My Ayrtek was amazing. My team-mates GM Purist 808 is better. I think if you have a good eye, and middle the ball a lot then a more traditional bat is better as you have more wood behind your shots. If you're a slogger, or swing hard and not time everything, then a 'modern bat' may be for you.
