Good morning ,
I wonder if you can help me , I have recently started re trying to regain my fitness , I try to run on roads but I find that hurts my ankles but recently I am finding when I run on grass my ankles are starting to ache on again . Now it's fair to say due to a few months of unhealthy living beer and kebabs I have turned in to a sort of rob key figure (no offence ment he is a cracking player ) I seem to be able to run for 5 min then I am knackerd I go to they gym and I feel fine in a treadmill but still get aching ankles .
Does anyone have any advise to help my sore ankles I see cricketer wrap tape around there ankles I also do have 1 foot larger than the other I know strange ha
Any help would be appreciated .

If you are suffering ankle pain you may need to lose weight before you try and run hard. It sounds as though you are pushing too much early on, which is a surefire way to get injured.
It's also worth seeing a physio to make sure your gait isn't a problem.

I agree with you there tim , however I have always had bad ankles when I was running even when I was in my prime , which is really makin me think do I have problems it's on the sides of my ankles the pain ,to be honest I have only got a beer belly and the start of moobs pays to be honest . I am 6ft 4 and I have heard stories of to much pressure on ankles any solutions .

You could be running too fast when you're on the road, it's better to go really slow and run longer then it is to run fast for a much shorter distance.

I'm 19, so whenever I run past someone I speed up to look good ,lol, but I found that if I do that I lose my rythm and it takes me ages to get it back. I don't know about any tips, but just walk and then just pick your pace up and then turn that into a slow jog and just carry that pace the whole way through and don't worry about what people think, you don't know them so no need to worry. Maybe one tip is to make sure you are breathing in through your nose and out through your mouth, this way if you start breathing heavily quickly, you know to slow down and steady your pace.

It sounds as though you are restarting and trying to relive former glories. You should run at a pace where you can hold a conversation while you are getting going, and if your ankles are hurting at that level, go and see someone.
One of the causes of ankle pain can be pronation where your feet don't land flat and to get that checked out requires either a dedicated running store or a physio. They will check out your gait. It could be as simple sd needing a different pair of trainers.

Yep always run for time not for distance and pace. So roll along for a greater amount of time e.g 30 min or 45 min run 2 to 3 times a week
Also get good running shoes e.g Brooks, Asics, New Balance or Mizuno's

I would try and do as little running as possible until the weight comes off. In the meantime i would suggest swimming as its no impact and will tone your whole body. You will just do more damage pounding the roads.
Sounds like you may have some ligament damage if you have always had pain there, but either way loosing weight will reduce the pressure on youre joints.
Alot of problems with feet and ankles are due to poor posture as well and the way you walk and run. It may be that you have an underlying problem else where that is causing the pain in youre ankles.

i have one foot smaller than the other !
i have size 9.5 and 6.5 do you have any advice for me ?

The best way to lose weight is remember calories used has to be greater than calories consumed. Exercise simply helps with that.

You do sound like a big unit Shaq! If you have pain in the ankles then take it easy and use a cross trainer. Anything low impact or resistance training is probably best as is swimming. I am 5.10 but have always had some pain in my ankles as they are quite thin and if I over do it then the pain spreads to the shins. Ive always avoided running simplf to avoid the impact but power walking is fine if you can do 45 mins you will see some results.

You do sound like a big unit Shaq!------ that is an awsome way of putting it hahah, like i have said i just get pains i am not out of breath but i can only do a five minute stint , swimming is not an option as its miles away from me to the closest one , i only seem to have a beer belly and the dreaded moobs i need to loose them when im on a cross trainer i dont get knackerd so i start to feel as if is this really working ??

PM7 has covered my reply plus add some decent quality milk products to your diet.

Tim has mentioned the subject of running gait.
I'm a fair sized unit (6'3 and over 16 stone) although no beer belly yet! And do a decent amount of running too without problems. I did have some issues but I went and got my gait analysed - they put my on a treadmill and did a camcorder at ground level behind. Then they slowed it down and could see me slightly over pronate! So they tried slightly different running shoes and did the same again, until they could see I was running with a nutural stance! And since then, I know which running shoes I need every time, and running is no worries - regularly do several mile runs without any further issues since having my gait analysed which was 6 or 7 years ago!!!
It sounds like it may be putting some strain on your ankles as your foot goes through, so find a shop which puts you on a treadmill to analyse your gait.

If you want to run get your gait checked as others have said, however if you are 'heavy' for your frame I would suggest doing something with lower impact for your joints until your weight has dropped.
Try cycling as an alternative, I dislocated my ankle a few years ago and due to the inactivity I put on quite a lot of weight, I lost some of the weight when I started exercise again but running was a problem whilst I was too heavy and my ankle was still slightly weak. I now cycle at least 4 times a week and for at least an hour each time on a very hilly route which I push myself on until I basically feel like I'm going to fall off, I've really noticed the difference recently with my weight and shape and am able to go much further in the time.
-
That's a good idea I use to bike all the time a few years ago but I fear cars and that so I took up running I have nevr been a great runner mind you , so maybe I should take the hint .

Or another good method to try is to run outside on grass or a softer surface. But instead of jogging for as long as you can, try to jog for 1 minute, then walk for 1 minute. Then jog for 1 minute again and walk for 1 minute. And carry on repeating this for 30 minutes or for however long seems comfortable(ish)
Then over the time period of a month or two, you should slowly decrease the walking period and increase the jogging periods until you should be able to do 30 minutes without walking.
If you are comfortable and not getting the pain or soreness you are getting now then you can build on that fitness gradually if you want! But if it is too much then as bez suggested, build up by cycling and loose some excess weight first to lessen the amount of strain on your ankles
