Title: Taping gloves
Post by: thecord on July 29, 2011, 03:08:08 PM
What's with Dhoni taping two of his fingers together on his keeping gloves?
Does anyone else do this and why?

Possibly a finger injury that he wants to protect?

Yea you might be right. Plenty of fielders have tape on their hands but it just looks odd over keeping gloves.

A lot of people who do this do it to create a better catching pocket, it tends to be when they have a slightly ill fitting glove and dont have great control of their little finger. (Surely this cant be the case)

I would imagine the little finger will be taped slightly forward of second finger thus creating a slight bowl effect and a catching pocket. Doesnt seem to be doing much good though!!!

I tape middle fingers and thumbs on both hands, with tissue underneath to stop friction. Not needed to cut my inners yet though.....

my old man did it once his little finger broke - you cant tape your fingers together before you put your hand in the glove!
Just helps prevent it bending back on impact

Why ever he does it, its clearly not helping him catch the little red thing!

i tape the thumbs on my padded inners so the padding sits in the right place, otherwise i keep catching the ball down the seam which really hurts :)

Touch wood but my hands have come through relatively unscathed this year, possibly down to the fact that we have been hammered so many times I haven't had to keep for very many overs! Would be interested to know how you get on with the taping though

I have a fractured thumb and 2 fractured fingers so far this season.

I tend to use tape on both thumbs and middle fingers, not too tight so they are flexible enough, then chamois inners over the top. Have had to cut a couple of holes last weekend but does the trick for me now

http://www.sellesmedical.co.uk/store/product/464-Tensoplast-Plaster-Roll-2-5cm-x-4-5m-

Tend to put a thin layer of toilet roll underneath mate, extra padding and stops any friction
