I have been out for cricket for a while before this year, and one brand that has unfortunately come to my attention is Aero. I know everything is a matter of opinion but OH MY GOD they suck so bad... Their pads look like polysterine sellotaped round the back. U may as well order something from amazon, then use the packaging to make ur own pads... I just cannot get over how bad they are... If that is the future of cricket, I'm gonna go take up tennis, cus that stuff is UGLY.
Their bags seem ok, but they are associated with the ghastly other equipment so I would never buy one. And as for their slogan... "Better cricket performance"... I'm sorry what? Its so poorly conceived it makes me vomit.
-
their stuff is very good quality and does indeed provide better cricket performance, i don't think you can argue with this. but of course the design is not to everyones taste and certaintly not to your taste it seems!
-
Each to their own...
-
I am not a big fan of there pads or gloves but all the stuff is well made. I do like the look of the bags and I have to say i really do like my strippers.
-
Ah yes... the only thing I would say that appeals to me is the strippers... They look like they provide comprehensive protection! I may invest in some actually... fortunately you wear them underneath clothing
-
Bucko, did the toys come out the pram when they started putting coloured labels on bats?
You cannot stop progress and think of how different todays pads are from 10 years ago, the Aero will be common in 10 more years.
-
Seems you have made a judgement primarily on looks alone, not sure how you can condemn the 'better cricket performance' slogan simply from a aesthetical viewpoint. Yes it is very different but as previously stated most of todays equipment is vastly different from years gone by, all the Aero equipment is the product of extensive research and development, and the benefits are there. I've tried all the equipment, and although not to my tastes it is very good, there are a few minor issues but one thing Aero take very seriously is customer feedback whether it be from your average cricketer or first class and international cricketers, they take it on board and go back to the drawing board and try to improve there products, I'd say with Aero it's a simple case of don't judge a book by its cover.
-
As you may have seen in another thread I own a pair of Aero pads.
I can not fault them in terms of protection or weight, which I suppose are the primary aspects they pride themselves upon.
However, I had a slight problem in my stance with the gloves catching on the pad, it is for this reason alone, I "might" sell them.
-
Talisman you are so wrong... This is just a gimmick. How many pros use them?? I don't think there are too many
-
Andre Adams, Chris Martin, Iain O'Brien....Off the top of my head.
-
Tyrone Henderson and Malinga
-
Wow... top signings
-
Didn't say they were, but I think you'll find every company has to start somewhere.
And don't even try saying Adidas have started with Bell and Pietersen... they have money from other area's.
And look what happened to Woodworm when they tried signing huge players straight away.
Give it time and Aero will grow. They already have a reputation across forums etc
-
if it was a gimmick then why would non sponsered aero pros use some off there kit
-
I think your letting your mouth run away with you, please explain to me how they are a gimmick? Firstly have you used them? Secondly they are used at first class and international level, they comfortably withstand those speeds and if you have tried the pads there is no doubting they are one of the lightest pads around, so surely if they offer top class protection at a fraction of the weight of normal pads, how is that a gimmick? With regard to signings, do you realise how hard it is for small companies to get there products out there and being used by the best? Think about it logically, top players attract bigger brands, smaller brands just can't compete. Aero have done well, the pads are used widely on the New Zealand domestic circuit and they have secured some international contracts all be it bowlers, anyway tail enders are much more likely to be peppered with the ball, thus highlighting the protection qualities.
-
here, here!
I do prefer the more conventional pad however...
you cant wear flextechs or Aeros down past the laces/flared out ;D
and the gloves are disgusting IMO
-
Bucko, Pro's use what they are paid to use. If Gunn & Moore had invented the Aero pad then all their players would wear them. You are in the world of the goggle eyed kids if you think your hero's choose to use the kit they do. I bet you got mummy to buy a Woodworm and have ditched it for the Adidas. Players are paid so children will buy the advertised kit.
-
Personally I respect the technology without wanting to be seen dead wearing them.
-
I'll admit, when I bought my first set of complete cricket gear, it was all Woodworm, forums have opened my eyes :D

Wow you really are so cocky Talisman...

Wow you really are so cocky Talisman...
He has a reason to be, lol.
-
I am, and for that I apologize. However I do not retract a word apart from Mummy buying the Woodworm, it's more likely to be Daddy.....
-
^^Made me chuckle
-
I'm not going to give you the pleasure of explaining how wrong you are about me... What reason does he have to be cocky?
-
Alot, trust me!
-
In the world of cricket you mean...
-
He is...The Talisman ;D
-
haha, you really love your grinning smileys ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D
-
too right ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D
-
Bucko, don't take it too seriously as I'm just playing it for laughs now. I was ridiculing your stance.
-
bucko what gear do you have? lol
-
The outcome of an intensive 3 year development is our Lower Body Protector which we call Strippers™. They deliver the key performance elements of…better protection, better comfort, better speed and better durability for all batsmen – in a unique and balanced way.
This is from there website, all they are doing is making the game better, things evolve, all pros wear strippers, there really good, and they are trying to make the game better
-
Strippers are excellent, I own a set... But pads, gloves and helmets... forget about it
-
all pros wear strippers
Sorry but that just isnt true!
-
Just saw a kid batting in the pads and gloves in my last game, they were shocking. Even if they might be good in performance they just look terrible!
-
Sorry but that just isnt true!
Ian bell : yes
Rav bopara : yes
KP : yes
thats 3 pretty much all the pros do
-
Pietersen wears Adidas thighs, the others I've not seen their kit so don't know.
Edit:
Adidas thigh pad can clearly be seen through his whites.
-
thats ian bell btw....
-
I know it's Ian Bell, if you read his post you'd see Bell was mentioned. I could have put a caption saying it was Bell, but it's pretty obvious who it is.
I didn't need to find photo's or proof for KP as I've seen his gear. And Bopara I looked but couldn't find.
-
Have seen KP on sky sports news in nets in the West Indies with Adidas thigh and inner thigh guard.
-
Pietersen has never used Aero, he has used Woodworm, Remfry, Ace feet in motion and now Adidas.
Bell was Remfry until signing with Adidas.
Bopara used Warsops, Remfry and now GM
Too my knowledge only Swann uses them in the England set up at the minute.
-
So basically whoever said everyone uses aero should be quiet lol
-
i am now lol, i was with my mate wen i posted it, he was extremely sure that every1 did, what a TWERP!
-

Dude... come on
-
Slap your mate for making you look a fool ;)
-
Extremely ugly, but quality is high
Would you wear them if say you won them as a prize ? (I would :))
-
I see this post has been reactivated and I really do wonder if Aero would listen if I wrote to them. Folks who wear Aero pads seem happy with them but as an umpire (and player) I have a number of real problems with them.
1. Batsmen tend to get their gloves mixed up with the top of the pads rather frequently which causes some interesting problems.
2. The ball rebounds off the pads further than 'normal' equipment and in tight situations with close in fielders you have to start, as an umpire, making assumptions that put years of training out of the door. ( A frequent occurrance is the ball bouncing up off the pad and striking the glove on the way down where with other equipment the ball would have fallen to the ground).
3. There is no knee roll as such so judging height becomes a problem.
4. There are no 'stripes' on the front of the pad so judging line also becomes a problem when struck on the pad.
So for me it means even more concentration for a batsman who is wearing this equipment. For many umpires the finger goes up anyway.
-
And look what happened to Woodworm when they tried signing huge players straight away
Well, they'd have been alright had they not splashed the amounts they did, maybe if they'd only had KP and Freddie they may have made it, but then again those two were worth A LOT of money. They're lucky they aren't completely gone now.
-
I think the main problem with the pads, are the LBW aspect,
how can the Umpire judge?
-
Maybe the umpire could use his eyes, instead of using silly rules of thumb like where is the knee roll etc...
-
but having a knee role is a very good judge of height
-
I note some of your comments about umpires bucko. Why should we retrain after many years of umpiring to fit in with one manufacturer?
Me, I have no problems but then again I do a lot of training, for what reason I am not sure, but more of that later, I am told umpiring is difficult, which is something I disagree with, but for those who follow this theory Aero have made it more difficult.
-
I just cannot see why, if umpires just watch the ball, they cannot judge the projected path of the ball correctly
-
I just cannot see why, if umpires just watch the ball, they cannot judge the projected path of the ball correctly
do you umpire bucko?
-
The simple answer to buck's problem is that if the batsman could hit the ball then LBW would not be in the equation. But hey to some people it is always the umpire's fault. Like the umpire caused me to miss the ball so there was an LBW shout.
Following the ball is simple but some of the so called 'techniques' taught by the 'experts' make it more difficult than it should be. But why would a batsman wear something than could cause a problem for the umpire in the first place?
If you work for Aero I do have a solution to this real problem but it surely has been thought of by others.
-
What?? What do you mean why would they make something to cause a problem for umpires? You think Aero thought that in the design? The knee roll is just part of the conventional design of pads, it doesn't really serve a great purpose. Aero have got rid of it to save weight etc... I hate the appearance of the pads, but it shouldn't make it harder for umpires.
"The simple answer to buck's problem is that if the batsman could hit the ball then LBW would not be in the equation. But hey to some people it is always the umpire's fault. Like the umpire caused me to miss the ball so there was an LBW shout."
What the hell are you talking about? That has nothing to do with why the umpire can't predict the path of the path of the ball. That's just general chat to avoid the point I made
-
I think if they just draw a line, acrosss the knee area problem solved
-
Pretty close Apple, pretty close to what is needed.
Well it does make it harder for the majority of umpires. Check the conventional training methods for judging LBW decisions and it will become immediately clear to you what the problem is.
-
I think Umpires are always right ;D
-
whatever happened to art?
-
He left.
-
I think Umpires are always right ;D
except when im at the crease!
-
i think these pads top the areo pads the new gn ignite players:
-
I think i was just sick they are auful
-
This Isn't a over statement, but they have to be the worst pads i have ever seen.
-
they look like many girls i know of, when you look at the back of them you get interested and then you see the front...... and you run away FAST
-
haha class slogger :)
-
going against the crowd here, but i think they would look ok in the flesh. not good, but ok
-
Nothing gets worse than the aero pads.
-
both are just absolutely awful!?!
-
Those look like they have been made for space travel.
-
It's like trying to make a hybrid between a steam train, and an electric one.
I'm felling like puking.
-
Think they need to fall either one side of the fence or the other trying to be modern with the use of foams yet traditional with the use of 3 central canes obviously hasn't got you boys running out to buy a pair...back to the drawing board for Mr GN designer!
-
I like them...they arent too bad, wouldnt wear them myself but, i like them
