Title: Interesting buy #2, another GN Oblivion Power
Post by: jonpinson on August 20, 2011, 06:43:58 PM
I wnt back to JJB to have a look at the other Oblivion they had. It wasn't as striking as last week's one, from the back only 8 or so not very straight grains were visible. However, fool I am, buy it I did.

I wasn't expecting much, but the work was carried out as before.

Guess what.

I got lucky.

Not bad for a total of £109...

Again.

If you want, I'll raid my local JJB of all GN Oblivion Power's - they have about 3, one has lush grains.

I think I've been lucky with these two and it is very difficult to predict the looks without really being able to see them. However I'd advise anyone to consider it when they see them.

The first one now weights a barely believable 2'6.2 without all the gunk with 38mm edges, the new one 2'8.3 with 35 mm edges and less concaving.

Mind posting picture of both bats concaving?

I just think you got lucky, it is not necessary that everyone will get as good bats as you.

What I don't get is that why do they grade them so low then?

GN do not sell these bats as English Willow , having said that they look good.

Can you explain the 'English willow' sticker on the back oh great oracle?, if as you have insinuated from the beginning, these are indeed KW?

Well half an hour ago they were KW, now they are Canadian willow...what next in your attempts to discredit my findings James? Suggestions of moon willow?
Hints of a conspiracy involving GN, Brian Lara and the US secret service to label KW bats as EW?

Off the GN website these are the options for the oblivion

Sizes(s):   SSH, SH, LH, LB (size guide)
Colour(s):   N/A
Options:   L.E, PLAYERS, EXTREME PRO, CARBO, 5 STAR, 4 STAR, STRIKE

I presume the "Power" is made as a low end bat exclusively for JJB?

At the end of the day it's down to how they perform in a game.

Hi All

Canadian Willow...........................sorry but I had better pick myself up from the floor before I.............................nope. You are just too funny.

The Oblivion power is indeed a bat specifically made for companies like JJB/Argos/Tesco etc. It has been cosmetically graded. Please take note that it is not only the face that is graded, there may well be faults in the willow that lie beneath painted or bleached finishes.  However you may well find something with no major blemishes on the face, possibly something on the rear, but performs really well.

Canadian Willow.......thats made my day!

Don't speak badly of Lekka in a thread he didn't start. You clearly have no interest in buying one of these bats so please do not post.

 ;)

If you don't like the post why don't you just delete it rather than making a childish reply?

sorry wont do it again

no that's a lie too  :P

I'm sure Lekka doesn't mind a bit of harmless banter otherwise he wouldn't say half the inflammatory stuff he does on the forum

Back on subject I've been tempted in the past to give these a go and i did inspect a pretty good one in JJB not long ago think i may go back now I've seen ho well your two turned out
