Hello,
I dunno whether this is just me getting angry but I just checked scorecards from yesterday and saw 3 14-15 year olds where playing ahead of me in 2nd team, I'm pretty annoyed about that as I've done nothing wrong to warrant not being picked

It's not cause you went to watch the gee-gees instead of playing cricket is it? ;) All jokes aside though, have you asked your skipper why they played ahead of you? I've found that the best way to deal with it is if you find out the issues and the reasoning behind it :)

Yeah i asked, and just like made up a stupid answer, what i don't get is if the 1st team are short i will be asked to play for them but the 2's i dont get a look in :

Perhaps it was decided to let some younger players get some experience of playing at a higher level now we are approaching the end of the season.
It is one of those situations where not everyone will be happy, but I've seen it done before.
-
I'm 15 and playing in my club ones . . I don't think its your club taking the piss, maybe they are just better than you? Or giving them some valuble experience at the end of the year playing at a higher standard?
I learnt jack s**t playing in my 3s, on rubbish pitches, against medium pace bowlers, playing in the 1s I'm learning stuff every week.
-
Depends if the younger's' are good enough to hold their own. Also if they will get the 'experience' from playing 1's, wont learn nothing getting spanked around or getting out for nothing. Sunday league 1's is probably the way for the youngens to gain experience if they need to learn stuff or if they are good enough to play 2's but need that little bit extra to gain confidence and 1st team awareness.
Again, if they are good enough to play, then let them play. If it is to make up the numbers, then i dissagree.
I agree with the point asking the captain what the deal is. If's, buts and assumptions will be answered

I've had a similar situation recently, I open the batting for the Saturday 1's now after joining the club last season as a bowler in the 2s ??? and worked my way up from 11 to 1 for them, and 6 to 1 in the 1s this year. I played two games for the Sunday 2s last year, got 66 and 121* opening. Since then I have been in the Sunday 1s until a few weeks back, when 3 keepers were put in the 1s, and only 4 of those selected for the 1s really deserved their spot (1 by default as clueless captain). I then sent a text to captain asking "since when was so and so better than me out of interest" or similar to be told that he didnt like my tone and refused an answer or explanation.
The captain in question managed to steer the 1s to defeat by 60 runs today against an awful team who we beat by 8 wickets and 182 runs in our last two meetings, there is no way in hell he will be captain next year as he has effectively ruined sunday cricket this year. (Btw its not just me im p****d offabout, our saturday 1s star bowler averaging 7 with 36 wickets in 7 games is also in the 2s on a sunday, ridiculous.)
Rant over >:( :D

Well, at least you get picked for a Saturday! I've got more runs than some guys who are getting picked as batsmen despite batting in a third of the number of games they've played...

In fairness your reaction was rude and immature, don't really blame the captain for not replying.
-
Got to admit that I agree with jon on that. Would add that the response you got was equally rude and immature...
-
Jon he did reply but avoided the issue, he has also refused to explain his selection policies to other captains who have queried him at selection in a much more tactful manner. Yes my reaction was a bit rude and immature, but i still deserved an explanation.
Are you not even getting a game in the 3's phil!? I know the 2's kept the same side for a few weeks as it was a winning team after their turnaround, luke hinton even was put in the 3s rather than change the side! Whos in ahead of you?

It happens. Are you really playing that well that your place in the team is set in stone? Or are you playing ok, but mainly getting a game due to your experience, past performances etc?
If it's the latter rather than the former, then newer/rarely selected/younger players can sometimes get picked in front of you if you're form isn't enough to cement your place in the side. It's like most sports, your backup guys all want to play, so often you find they put in lots of effort to show they deserve a chance. Maybe this is the same?
And just because they are juniors doesn't mean they are bad players or worse than you. At the weekend a 16 year old scored 70 odd against us, whilst their older more experience batsmen never got into double figures bar one of them who got about 20. Also, we have a 17 year old pace bowler in our firsts who takes more wickets than some of the experienced bowlers. Granted, these are older than yours, but my point remains that they: a - earned their place, and b- have cemented it with top performances.
If he's dropped you despite performing very well, then that's another matter entirely. But rarely do I find those who get dropped are done do without a good reason.

Is your club operating a selection commitee or is it just the skipper picking the side
I find larger clubs have proper selection commitee of former players and captains of the club and the pro
That way transparency is used but instead of the click mentality.
