Right I'm pretty sure i'l be batting on a soggy dog today and needed a bit of advice on what bat I should use??? Light or heavy
I was thinking probably light as it's likely to nip about a bit...
Opinions please.....

Wouldn't decide me bat on weight, more on where the middle is, I would tend to use a bat with a lower middle and stand well outside my crease if possible to negate any sideways movement.

Pace of the bowling determines weight I use but what ever feels right when you get there

Tb I like your method the big meaty low middle bats coming out to play and I'm gonna track every ball lol

On the whole you'll need a lower middle on English wickets. Especially in the North West!
Get a good foot and a half outside your crease and drive over the top!!

I am there with you. I have one bat I use all the time. It suits me and I make it work for me on the different types of wickets we have to play on over here.

Nope. I went into my localish cricket store when I was looking for a new bat, and the guy went through almost his whole stock - GM, Slazenger, Puma, SS, etc - and went into great detail into how each bat is suited to a particular type of player, type of pitch and so on. The guy seemed very knowledgeable and passionate. But, I felt it was a bit over the top since I had never had any problems using a Slazenger V600 from being 15 until 22, on various different types of pitches... So yes, some people put way too much thought into what bat they use.

dont get me wrong i like you hit a hell of alot of bats to find the one that pings and picks up the best but thats it. id never change my bat due to conditions or the type of bowlers

I've found that, in the conditions I am most likely to play and with the way I play, I get on with a certain type of bat. This means that I look for those characteristics when I buy a bat. It also means I tend to play a certain selection of shots and there are others that I don't really play.
I do get the lighter or heavier bat thing though, as on a bouncy, quick pitch, I have regularly been late to the ball with a heavier bat.

I think I have a different take on the matter. I used to go with the traditional view that on an English pitch you go for a lower middle but it really depends what sort of player you are. For Instance I've recently switched to a mid-high middle which I get on with so much better because I'm a predominantly back foot player, and tend to drive on the up.
On the weight issue I've recently switched to a lighter bat because, in the words of my first cricket teacher "You can always hit the ball harder...."
