I have worn Asics spikes for the past 4 seasons now, 2 of those have been with Gel 344 and then the latest 2 with Gel Strike Rates.
Needing a new set of spikes and just wondered whether I should go Asics again (probably strike rates again) or try some Adidas or Puma.
I open the batting and a get through quite a few overs as a first change bowler and occasional opener. I bowled nearly 200 overs in all league cricket this year. Also a rather lively fielder. I find my Asics really comfy and good for an all-rounder.
Just wondered what your views are on Puma and Adidas Spikes as I have never worn them.

Get a pair of trainers spiked up buddy.
I always buy a comfy pair of runners, then send them to Brian and Brenda
Definitely the best option
-
Not the best for bowling lost of overs though, that's why I have discounted Gel Advances as an option. The similar Asics running trainers are rubbish when I used them last. Had to drive home bare footed as they hurt so much!
The only trainers I would get spiked up are the Gel 100 TR from Asics, I have a set of these and they are identical to my strike rates. But they have discontinued them! I don't undertstand that as a lot of professionals use them spiked up
-
if you are bowling lots, don't use trainers.
I'd wait and see what next years shoes are.
-
Yeah, I'm not looking at getting any now. I have a £25 voucher for the local sports shop that can order me in any of the spikes.
Just wondered about Adidas and Puma
-
I'll be looking at this as well as my spikes are not very good shall we say so will need some new next season
-
Would it not be worth investing in Bowling boots aswell as batting spikes?
-
Nah, had bowling boots before and hated them! A nice supportive set of spike do the job, like my current asics
-
I have trainers spiked for bowling/fielding and then a pair of batting spikes also.
The longevity of the batting spikes would easily be several seasons.
Because I am a spinner, the trainers hold up a lot better.
I can imagine pace bowlers being pretty rough on shoes through the impact etc going into the delivery stride etc

I'm guessing you are probably a medium pace bowler if you are more comfortable in the Strike Rates.
I used to find that the various Puma and Asics boots were much better for ankle support when I was an opening bowler. Ok, I'll never be a Brett Lee, but even when you are pushing low Kumar pace, it really does make a difference when you aren't a pro to have the extra support.
Otherwise, I'd stick with the Asics if I was you!

Nike!!! I open the bowling in the centurys and find them very comfy!
I also bat 3 so find them a good all-round shoe!

Asics all the way for me. I have a pair of Gel 452 No and had them for 3 years now. So comfortable.
I've not tried Puma but the Adidas Twenty2 Yards I had had holes in the bottom that made my feet wet when on a damp outfield. Not a great thing 30 minutes into a 45 over match!
-
It's another tricky one really - everyones feet are different.
I was one of those guys who loved his Asics, but got blistered to buggery with them.
I've had the Nikes this year, but I didn't get on with them, I found them a bit chunky for my liking so I've hardly worn them and will be selling them on here very soon.
Pumas fit my feet really well and I may well look to pick a paor up in the winter sales.

I hate to be called a medium pacer, but sadly it is true!
I may just go for a new pair of strike rates
Having said that, the quickest in our league (England nets bowler and has some serious pace) wears strike rates after having bowling boots
-
Jimmy anderson and Tim bresnan have worn strike rates bowling so they must be good for pace bowlers
-
I was looking at the strike rates but they have really weird stud consideration, how can you even mark your guard ?

Use a bail ;)

I still manage by just using the side of my foot

With the strike rates, you learn where the studs are and it works fine.
