Title: Match and Net Bats?
Post by: WABH-J on September 09, 2011, 12:43:02 PM
Hi all,

Wanted to ask your opinion on some things! I've heard a number of people talking about how they save certain bats for matches i.e "This is my match bat".

I don't understand this, surely the bat you practice with is the bat you'll want to take onto the pitch so that you're used to it? I sort of understand keeping a spare bat in case it gets wet, and I sort of understand maybe using a heavier bat in the nets for training but overall I still think it would make more sense to keep things constant?

Anyway what are your thoughts and reasons?

Well I have never had a net bat before, but I am having 2 laver and Woods made up as part of a deal and one will be a Reserve and the other a Legend. They will be identical in shape, weight and all that but the only difference is that the Legend will be pressed a bit harder to cope with cheap net balls, and the Reserve will obviously look better.

So if the bat's are identical weight and shape and the same in every way, then it's a smart thing to use a net bat.

Some people use a heavier bat in the nets and a lighter one for matches as it will seem easier. But I guess that may affect your timing in theory!?

Others have identical bats - the nets bat Grade 3 and their match bat grade 1 - Laver amongst others offer this service.

and others just do whatever! I think it's just best to try most options and do whatever is working for you!
Horses for courses!

For me personally I like to use my best bat at all times. If I'me not using my main bat in net's it will feel odd in my next match when I bat. It's just personall preference.
