Title: 2 Spring thingys.
Post by: jw17 on October 22, 2011, 11:53:25 PM
I recently bought a Puma Kinetic 6000 (bargain at 220 with 10 straight grains and great on the mallet test but less of this) and i took the SH sticker off the top of the handle and it only had 2 black lines when normally bats have 3, does anyone know why?

Stiffer handle basically.

I know AB deVilliers has 2 springs as it's something like a hockey stick then.

Is it a puma thing so every puma has it?

I believe most 5000/6000 models have it, even juniors. Not 100% sure.

ProWannabe and possibly Simmy have more knowledge about this sorta thing so might be worth one of those guys popping up.....

It's an old Julian Millichamp thing, he has historically always used 2 springs and when he used to work at Puma they did the same. It's stayed the same since, I think.

Could this be partly why screaming cats are said to perform so well

Yes, as far I know all Pumas from 3000, 4000, 5000 and 6000 range have it.

Don't worry you have a legit bat mate :)

Hope bat serves you well!

less springs = stiffer handle as far as i know most pumas and blueroom use two springs

less springs = stiffer handle

Which gives more power in shot as less energy is absorbed.

That would explain why the two Puma bats I've had absolutely fly compared to other bats...

but does this equal more vibration in the handle?

Yeah it does, gives u more spring but more vibes. My blue room has 3 while my old puma and laver have 2.

All the pumas at robs had 2 rubbers so I think it's a standard puma thing.

you can also get a kelver handle making it even more stiffer

I know laver do a Carbo handle but a kevlar one? And surely it's just a kevlar insert, a completely kevlar handle would be wholly illegal, and pretty weird.

Could you make a bat that had the handle fully crafted out of the willow, and then some cuts and the springs inserted? I know it would be hard to do, but some of the big brands GM etc with their technology, surely it would be doable?
