Post by: uknsaunders on October 23, 2011, 02:53:41 PM
I seem to have lost the previous thread on this topic, but I have here:-

http://g.co/maps/5qd6x

A map of CBF Members and their grounds. It needs (alot) of updating but if you can pass on details of your club, location, teams ,league, your user name -  I can add to the list. PM me or post in this thread.

Cheers

Nick

btw - you can edit the map yourself by clicking edit, click/dragging a placemark symbol in the top left corner of the map onto your club and then filling in the details.

Might just be my iPad but no grounds are showing on the map for me.

Home Advantage! Google Maps seems reluctant to put a label in the middle of a grey area :(

You can't really see it on Google Earth but our ground is in massive bowl with the pavilion being raised - seems weird now playing on grounds where the whole thing is level. It was built about ten years ago when the 1st Team was promoted to the Derbyshire Premier League but the pitch at Beech Lane (3rds Pitch now, north of main pitch) was deemed not good enough for the prem so we were kept in div 1 and it went down from there. We had to lease ground from a local cricket-playing farmer who now captains the 2nd (Part of the deal) and build a pitch and pavilion.

That's the story.

Also, no other people in Derbyshire or Nottinghamshire? Disappointing for me...

spotted the bowl now - look for tiny ridges in the outfield, normally gives away a slope.

Separate point, I was looking at a ground the other day and the image showed a lake next door to the pitch. However, when I looked on yell/bing whatever it was a field. Using the history slider in Google Earth showed me that google maps was using a 2003 image and in fact a later 2006 image existed with trees and no lake. Google using out of date images on maps, who'd thought?

Unfortunately you've got the wrong pitch there Nick. Ours is the small ground with 4 clay tennis courts on the left as you look at it, but I've edited it. Hopefully it has worked :)

Haha, it's difficult to explain on here.

The vicinity you marked is North Middlesex CC. They have 3 squares.

There is then our ground, which I've marked.

On the right of that is North London's 2nd ground, which is really really small.

To the right of that is Crouch End Calthorpe's ground.

Behind our ground is North London's 1st Ground. It has 2 squares, but they only ever use one on a Saturday.

There is then a ground behind the school, which belongs to Hornsey CC (our auld enemy lol!). They've just been promoted to the Premier League.

Hopefully that goes some way to explaining things, you really need a walk around tour of the area to understand everything!! :)

Bit of a weird one, but does anyone know the club that plays here - https://maps.google.co.uk/maps?q=51.404955,-0.23375&hl=en&ll=51.404838,-0.232075&spn=0.002834,0.008256&num=1&t=h&gl=uk&z=18 (https://maps.google.co.uk/maps?q=51.404955,-0.23375&hl=en&ll=51.404838,-0.232075&spn=0.002834,0.008256&num=1&t=h&gl=uk&z=18)

It's near to where I live and from what I can see it's been built up over the winter with a new club house, new nets and so on but I can't find a club on google.

That isn't a surrey championship ground - not sure who plays there, but old wimbledonians is really close, they are a nice bunch of guys (not the greatest track though) see SW20 0QX - althought the map is slightly misleading, you access the ground from Somerset Avenue - and http://surreychampionship.com/pageBroker.aspx?page=grounds there is a guy in their first team with a lovely H4L bat! Most of the clubs in that area have a smattering of Saffa's and Aussies (i.e. you will be in a minority ;))

using google earths historical timeline function you can see it's undergone some changes!

It's the LESSA (Formally EDF) Sports Ground - I think Lessa Wanderers play there. They seem to be a Sunday team. Not sure how accurate this is though.

May be a good place to start:-

There's quite a few clubs around here that play on outgrounds or in public parks.  I have a feeling this might be one of those outgrounds.  I've seen cricket played on it, but never seen anyone else there apart from football.  But as you say Buzz, most of the teams in this neck of the woods (especially those based in SW19/SW20) have a lot of Aussies, Kiwis and Saffas

Yes we have a good selection of H4L

Teamwear orders are generally not fulfilled immediately, although we do carry a reasonable amount of stock so there's a chance of taking some gear away. We offer free delivery though so it wouldn't be long before your kit was with you :)
