Last weekend was the time planned and off I drove to Swindon. I planned to meet Roco there, and as I was running 30 minutes late, I knew he'd be there already.
The shop is a clean shop unit in an industrial estate close to junction 16 of the M4.
I strolled in and there was a nice downstairs part with lots of sports clothing kit and a friendly smiling lady seated behind the counter - I assume it was Asad's missus.
She pointed me upstairs and off I trundled up to to the first floor where there was masses of kit, bats, pads, gloves, etc, etc!!! Asad welcomed me with a firm handshake and made me feel very welcome. Roco wandered over and was quite excited in the same way as a young kid would be in a sweet shop. We started looking at everything whilst Asad kindly offered us both a mug of tea. We started chatting about bats until the Aero Representative arrived 15 minutes after I arrived - then Asad had to obviously disappear downstairs to see what goods the Aero rep had.

This left myself and Roco to continue to browse around and lots of tapping up with mallets continued. This went on for a long time and every so often Asad escaped got away from the rep for a 10 minute chat. This continued for a couple of hours, but there was so much to look through, tap up, and try on that we rarely felt bored! In fact it was probably after 3 hours or more that we started to realise the time. In these chats with Asad he told us a lot about how he always strives for quality, something that was very clear from some of the bats! It was obvious that he put so much effort and time into ensuring that the bats he chose were the best he could get his hands on, as this is the best way to get a good reputation.
When Roco and I were left alone we kept going through the huge amount of bats and commented that even though there were some top quality sticks for around £200+, there were also some absolute beauties for £100-150 as well!! If I didn’t already have a few net bats, then I could have picked up some great decent net bats for around £100 or less!
Asad usually closes at 2pm but I think it was almost 4pm by the time that Asad asked me to come downstairs and tap up the Nike bats which the Aero rep was showing Asad.
“Pete, would you buy this Nike bat for £350?” So I picked the £350 bat up and started to tap it with the mallet....hmmmm, felt like a plank! So my answer was most definitely a resounding “NO!”
The rep asked me to tap up the £250 Nike and that was no better! All in all, the Nike bats the rep had were very poor, and yet the Aero bat which he had tapped up very nicely in comparison! All in all the Nike bats were the most disappointing bats I’ve ever tapped up! But to be fair, although the Nike bats were not that good, they still do decent quality bags and other gear so not a total waste!
I think the rep decided to leave soon after and we discussed the kit Asad does downstairs. I don’t normally get too excited by the clothing aspect of cricket to be honest, but the amount of different materials, colour variations, light and heaviness of materials, breathability, and different styles was actually really quite interesting when I looked at all the examples. Asad seems to have dismissed what is usually offered, and instead he has asked the question of what the buyers actually want and tried his best to accommodate all their requirements with quality options.
But my love is for the bats so will continue with that! So we went back upstairs where I had put a few bats to one side. It was a hard choice as the only bats which didn’t tap up well were the Nike ones which the rep came in with! I picked a blank bat with a slightly higher middle, similar to the Legend and pretty huge profile, and also a BAS Bow 20/20 which was made by BAS with Asad’s top quality willow and better quality handles! Both bats scored incredibly highly on the ping-o-meter , with the BAS right up there! Heaven knows how they will knock in but it’s going to be fun finding out! And with both myself and Roco also taking a BAS thigh guard each we were sorted.
I just wanted to say a big thank you to Asad and his able assistant/wife for looking after us and letting us loose in his shop! When I arrived I was expecting some good quality gear (in particular bats) but my visit actually surpassed my high expectations!! I will post pics soon so hope you enjoy!

They were great bats but I don't like the square toe - more for the Aussies!
I'm sure they have revamped the 2012 Quantun back to have the rounded toe!

Im not usually a fan of a square toe but these are different (no idea whY). I prefer the pink to the red they are bringing out in 2012 as well

When I was there, I did say that if I purchased one then I would send it to one of the guys to round the toe off anyway - it wouldn't cost a lot and problem solved!
If you like the square toe then no problem to start with!  ;)
They were generous profiles and look nice!

Yes that does put you under a bit of pressure! I did a runner a couple of weeks ago when the Boom Boom rep was in there and started getting his samples out. Luckily I had already made my purchase so I didn't have to reveal my thoughts on their kit!

I couldn't lie! After tapping up some of the bats upstairs and my bats, and then I tap them up and they are like planks, what could I do!  ;)
And then the Aero bat tapped up nicely!! SO what are they doing pushing the Nike bats when the Aero bats are better? And Roco and I did question why a rep selling these would not pick better Nike bats to show to customers.
Roco did say that it was better for the rep to show the normal quality so the customer knew what he was dealing with, but when the bats are not great then what are Aero doing?

It was pleasure to have both roco and Pete. pete's collection of bats is one of the best quality i have seen. The man knows how to select a quality bat.
My aim is to make our shop the best in UK and i welcome people to come and visit us.

we have these available in 2-3 differet shapes, basically to cater for low and bouncy wickets.
some of these are made in UK and others by well known manufacturers from subcontinent, who we supply our own selected willow.
wait for test quality matching pads and gloves. Few county players have already approached us as they wat to use our kit. watch the space

Ok chaps...now a game of guess the weight! It's a large bat so please don't guess any silly weights like 2'6 or 2'7 as it would need to be overdried mentally to do that! It's no overdried but is a nice bat...

I agree. Why bother risking a custom when you can go up there and chose from 100s of bats which hes hand picked, which really is essentially the same thing.

DK - I have to agree, it looks like Asad has an impressive range of bats and equipment......i was in Swindon the other weekend, should have made a detour!
Have you been to the County Ground at Taunton......they have quite a range as well,  at Dick Turpin prices though!

To be fair if you pay £10 for a year membership to the shop you get 20% off everything, excluding sale items. I've bought a couple of bats from there, including a GM Hero Original for £120 in the end of season half price sale, where pretty much everything is, you guessed it, half price.

Pete you did exactly what me and one of my other cricketing badgers did, we went down there to check out the new black mamba and green mamba range and help design the soft gear, we turned up at about 11 and didn't leave until just before closing time at 6, did about everything from stickering up bats to dreaming about owning a place with so much gear! cannot wait to see the final designs of the gloves and pads and i am sure everyone on here is going to love them as well! going to be worth the wait! cannot knock Asad at all he in my eyes is the best in the world at what he does! very highly rated!

And we had another very nice shop visit last weekend......this time we had lunch too!
The number of retailers i have been to where I see average or even below average bats, and try to find that one gem in amongst all the dross! Well, when I visit Asad's little cave, it's the opposite where I am trying to find the one plank amongst all the gems!!  8)

And of course I simply had to take some photos of some of the lovely new stock whilst there!!

Those Asics are bloody comfy, although they would be pretty hopeless as bowling boots cos the insole is very loose... and no good as batting shoes cos the protection at the toe is non-existant.

It's a gun! lovely pickup, lovely feeling of compression off the middle which seemed very big, looks the business and played how you imagine an international batsmens bat to. I was very impressed! I'd buy it......  ;)

@100 not out I'm waiting on these Chase pics too mate, got a beauty of a stick to show off and it's driving me mad as I want to leave it to Pete to unveil it! I think he's been a bit under the cosh this weekend, what with a young family and the last weekend before Christmas but I'm sure it won't be long..... ;)

I think it might be a good idea to actually create a thread delineating the different varieties you have  :). That way people can check into that thread from time to time if they have questions.

Asad - the black mamabas I have tapped up have been absolute quality - large middles and extremely responsive! I have only tapped a couple of the green ones (as the black mambas drew my attention!  :-[ ) but the ones I tapped up were superb! I just love the black mamba as it is great to find bats with excellent grains AND response! But then again, I know who made most of those babies, so the response and quality of bat and finish is expected!!  ;)

Sorry I forgot to metion to all the forum guys, we are going to have Pete's top selected bats o sale very soon, probably after Christmas. Pete has agreed that he will let few go so I am dedicating a special section in my shop.
I kow i have eye on few of his bats  and remember Pete that one which Uzi liked

Lots of stores have a much larger stock, for example Owzat who's order for GM alone was 1000s this season. But Asad's probably has the highest percentage of good looking bats, as all the selection is done for you. The ones posted on this forum always look unreal.
