Title: One spring
Post by: Joe on October 25, 2011, 07:47:39 PM
Just thought this deserved a new topic as it has baffled me.

My £99.99 bargain Private Bin (http://custombats.co.uk/cbforum/index.php?topic=14187.0) has but one spring.

Anyone care to enlighten me as to why this is? I've heard of bats having two (SCAT, Puma) whereas most have three, but one? I don't think it's a carbocane, so can I have some ideas/answers please?

My old size 5 GM Scorer only had 1 spring- i was embarrassed so i drew 2 more on in felt tip.....you could maybe try that?

Hmm. In theory this would make it perform better, but more vibrations.
to save on materials ?

I doubt that with Laver

I used to have a GM Purist that came with a set - one spring! This obviously is a tennis ball laver...

:-) it's possible...... just don't bash stumps into the ground with the face like i did with the Scorer........ *sigh*.........'twas a right mess by the end.......

Just makes a stiffer handle. GM and Stuart Surridge both used to make single spring handles.

What's the advantage of a stiffer handle?

In theory, it means you get less flex and therefore transfer more power to the ball, like a carbocane!

Are the extra vibrations noticeable?

Just got this email from Andy:

Hi Joe,

Many thanks for the messages.

We stickered the bats up for Owzat in a unique fashion so that they were
something different.  This is why there is a mixture of the green and the
red labels on your new bat.  I can confirm that it is a Private Bin and is
a lovely bat for the price.  We hope it goes well for you.

The fact that there is only one spring does not affect the quality of the
bat at all.  We only use top quality handles and get a range of them from
our suppliers.  Some have one spring, some have two and some have three.
When these bats were made James would have been likely to use some of the
one spring handles in the junior bats.

I hope this answers your queries and we hope that the bat goes well for
you.

Kind Regards,

Andy

Its a junior bat so I doubt anyone would use best material really.
