Title: mesh or leather
Post by: 19reading87 on November 01, 2011, 06:53:25 AM
Morning guys!

Asking this question for my mate as he asked me as I'm a cricket equipment geek in his eyes but I didn't really know the answer so said I would find out.

He wants to know if there is any difference and the pros and cons of having mesh on the inside of the pads where the pad sits above the boot and goes down the side of your boot compared to it being leather???

Cheers for your help gentlemen

there is also the synthetic material used in some of the kook pads - like the Ice or rogue pads

I am assuming you are comparing the inside, for example of the GM Pads - the Original and LE pads have leather and the 909 and below have mesh.
It might be worth saying that from a general wear perspective, the mess holds up pretty well.

Ah ok. Does mesh wear away as quickly as the leather?

I think that depends on how you wear your pads and the type of shoes you have - but I have a particularly scruffy mate who uses an older pair of GM 909 purist pads and the pads look knackered but the mesh is fine!!

Opening up an old topic here.

I'm having trouble with my current pads. I have used my new Hawk pads for 5 innings - maybe 5 hours of batting and the inside instep of leather has worn away and there are holes already. Question is, would this happen if I had mesh instep pads?? My last 2 pairs have gone this way too!!!

Stick a photo up Reds, I had Hawks for a while and don't recall having this problem mate.

I have never had this problem until after a couple of seasons wear with leather but whenever I have had pads with the mesh it has never worn to a point where holes appear like in the leather. So in my experience the mesh is better.
