Guys,
looking ahead into the future when i return to cricket its likely my shoulder will be weak, therefore i am going to need an uber light bat to use for a while until all strength returns, i think i am talking 2lb 5 or 6, going for a blank bat as 1. stickers dont bother me 2. that should save a bit of weight and 3. it gives me more options as i can just pick the bat shape i want and not bother about nice shiny stickers!
Wondered what the best design to go for a light bat would be...i am after something that doesnt have a high middle, has minimal of concaving as possible as i know the temptation for a very light bat would be a hell of a lot of concaving, not bothered about edge size...was looking around at styles that could have very light bats made out of them with minimal differences but am struggling!
any thoughts appreciated!

Peplow if you got one of these I would have to demand a friendly against your lot just so I could have a chuckle at you and your CHIC!
-
I'd take the chic stickers of that!
Look at the Mjoiner I would, a 2lbs 6oz one of them would be good, dan griffin had one on here and it was of good size
-
u should have held onto the C6 Mjolnir i sold you!!! 2.4oz
-
i guess any classis profile would suit. something like the newb mjolnir or maybe the new gm 1885 or whatever the year is. i remember playing against someone this year who had the thinnest GM ive ever seen. edges at the shoulder were like toothpicks. think it was a flare. toe was pretty small too. picked it up and it weighed nothing
-
my raje bat in the sale section picks up like a dream for a 2'7/8. Has a nice thick handle which helps.
-
Would be lighter without the stickers too!
-
are you on the short side? If so a harrow might work for you. My daughter got a cracking harrow from Raje, decent edges and not much concaving for a 2'5oz stickered/scuffed. Failing that, get a custom made bat. I got a harrow length/full width bat. Allows for some cheating on the amount of wood in the middle due to the shortened length. Could even go for a SSH as well.

tbh, it's got the least amount of stickering of any bat i've seen recently so it wouldn't make much difference compared to an adidas.

2.2!! in all honesty it was too light!

I had been considering a ssh, or an inch of the blade and onto the handle..

Samuel what are you doing with you so called heavier bats now, anything in 2.8-9?
cheers

i have a couple i am saving for when i am back to full strength,
-
they may have woodworm by then ;)
i have 2 very light bats at home, im sure we could work a swap out :)
-
Canners he has one in 2.10 which he is gifting me, so you can't get that as it would be heavier for you ;)
Peps am I correct? :) ;)
-
2.10 is too heavy for my weedy arms, but remember its all about pickup ;)

ermm yes ;) ;)

do both, slightly slope the shoulders to cheat a bit more.

Ewxactly plus I'm not too bothered over an ounce or two ;)
That's like a good boy peps :)

See now its the actual weight that boths me on this one, as long as it picks up like a 2lb5/6 bat should its cool. but a 2lb 8 with an amazing pick up isnt great with injuries..
-
No matter what the pick up feels like, you'll still be picking up that weight all afternoon
-

for a whole 3 balls lol ;)
-
disagree, you can cheat 2oz depending on where the weight is. A 2'6oz bottom heavy bat will pickup worse than a high middled 2'8. It surely must be the strain of lifting the bat and following through that will cause the most problems for an upper body injury.

agree to a certain extent, but i dont want a high middled bat, which is when it then boils down to actual weight..
-
sam. will this just be a net bat?
or will u be using it.
i have an old sh warrior bat.
its very very light at about 2.6. large oval handle picks up a dream and goes well. has a scoop out of the back!
its a bit battered so in need to clean it up a little bit.
-
it will be for nets to begin with and the nets and matches...
thanks simmy, i will consider it!
-
pm'd ya
-
how much weight does..
making it a ssh
and
taking an inch off blade and adding to handle
approximately save?

small mens?
also take a look at the gn 100, that must have light pick up for sure
-

they are, but you could easily get one custom made with a mans handle - and if you do so through a retailer (Owzat have done this for me in teh past) you'll still get a substantial reduction on RRP.
-
Use my middling bat! ;)
Would it be worth contacting the place you got your plain softs and plain bat before and see if they could do you an ultra light bat?
-

I've a pretty nice 2lb6oz Slazenger Pure Blade Ultimate that came from the Sports Direct sale. A lot of wood for the weight and Fattus found it worked pretty well. May be worth looking at that!
-
Sam. We can custom make anything you want. Perhaps something like an Uzi with a lower middle. 2lb 6 is not a problem. Email me if you would like me to sort you out with something.

That sounds good, there are a few around my way, within a days cycling distance, probably after xmas sometime when i am at home i'll go on a few trips to a few of them such as yourself and bulldog. Will have a nice wad of money to spend on multiple bats including the light one, so will see where i can spend my money best!

You are always free to come and visit anytime Sam and look at what we have in stock. Or if there was some interest from the guys from the Bristol area I would be happy to bring some bats up for you to look at.

Sam, This might be of interest?
Not sure if you are looking to buy or make though ???

Peps, The GN XXX Series 6 that I got is the way to go. Massive bat with very good middle and its 2lb7oz with stickers, grips, antiscuff.
I had a lovely Newbery Thurxton SPS in 2lb6.5oz, but its gone now. Had a lot of wood for a light bat and went really well. But it was from a pro, so possibly explains the above

Spamuel - talk to Tim about that Slaz - it's dreamy, with nice grains, big ole profile and nice grains. It goes like a slapper in a pub full of bankers too!

-
its a Harrow though...you would expect a Harrow to be lighter than that as we have some with 30+ edges that are only 2.4
-
Not looking to buy one Tom, but how much are your harrows?
-
