Title: Newbery 5 star bats
Post by: hit4six on November 19, 2011, 12:16:33 PM
Understandably, they are the grade 2 models manufactured by Newbery. Had anyone used one of the lower grade bats? Interested to hear views on this one.

I've got a 5star thruxton and can't speak highly enough of it, lovely weight and its had a good seasons and a half's usage and goes like a gun. I recently sent it back to newbery to get it refurbed and has come back looking like new, so it will be my match bat for another year.

Thruxton 5* without a doubt the best bat in my club, it's nicknamed the wand!

Used to have a newbery zeus 5*. Took a while to get going but was excellent once it did.

Know a couple of lads that own them, and they go like crap off a shovel. Used one, bit heavy for me (maybe 2:13?) but my God did it go.

My 5* Thruxton is a monster as well. I got it cheap as there was a tiny tiny knot on the back of the blade. Definately reccommend them although I would have said 5* was their 3rd grade bat:  5*, Player, SPS from 3 to 1 I think.

Some of the 5* bats are absolutely mad. The performance is amazing and if you are lucky you may find one that is good looking as well.

Had a Uzi and Thruxton 5* and they picked-up good and the ball flew off them (once fully knocked/played-in)

Depends Ahmed.

With the uzi I gave it 30-40mins but used the Thruxton straight away.

Generally keep knocking the bats till I see the grains open a bit / or get tired and bore of it :).

How much did the refurb cost mate if you dont mind me asking? Got a Mjolnir that needs a rehandle and a spruce up before I look to sell it.

Refurb was £45 plus postage to newbery, that included complete refurb any cracks were sorted and new stickers, grip and a face fitted. Came back looking like new

Not bad. Just sent my chase 175 finback off to chase for a clean up/re-grip/re-sticker and that is £40 plus postage. Might wait for that to return before I send the Newberry.

£40? I went there and they charged me £30 for a refurb and it wasnt a Chase bat.
