Title: Cutting the shoulders off a bat...
Post by: Dan W on November 27, 2011, 08:41:44 PM
Thinking of doing this as an experiment with an old bat, a few Q's..

I'm assuming the sole benefit is weight reduction, are there any others? What does it (typically) do to the pick up?

Does it reduce the structural integrity of the bat? What are the downsides (Asde from the reduced hitting area!) I'm guessing there are more pitfalls rather than positives (as it's not more common in bats)?

I don't think it really affects the hitting area as you don't normally hit anything that high up on the blade. Doesn't affect pickup ether (that I'm aware of), also enables you to play round your pads.

I think the idea is that it reduces the number of nics you get.

It might not have much of an effect on balance but if any thing it should move the balance down the bat.

I had one custom made by black cat for 20/20. It is a briliant bat and I have had zero problems. The shoulders on a bat are
basically redundant, They are not used for anything. Check out black cat on facebook to see my custom bat.
