As I have 2 weeks off, I thought I would make the most of it and arrange a shop visit to see Asad. After looking on the forum to see that PeteHosk and roco had visited recently, I thought I would follow the trend and make the 110 mile trip from Bournemouth to the outskirts of Swindon. I piled into the Fiat 500, with mother, misses and girlfriends brother and we headed towards j16 of the M4. I had a few things in mind that I wanted to purchase, and after looking on the Uzi Sports website, I asked Asad if he could kindly put aside some bats for me to have a look at upon my arrival.
I arrived to the shop to be welcomed warmly by Asad, his wife, and a local legend in the Wiltshire area (I will leave Asad to explain) and he quickly showed me a CA 12000 and the Kookaburra Recoil Players bat that is pictured on the forum. After picking up these two bats, I wish I had brought more money. He then showed me to the first floor of the store, and I can only describe that second floor as cricket heaven. The area was crammed full of various equipment, bats, gloves, pads, grips, balls, clothes, helmets, shoes.... you name it really.
The bats that I had asked to be reserved were downstairs and Asad recommended to have a look round what was on offer before he showed me the bats I had put by. A couple of the plain SS bats had 20+ grains and were tempting, and along with some beautiful CA/Newbery bats, I was already spoilt for choice. Before I had the chance to knock up a few bats, Asad returned with the 2 bats which I had reserved (which ironically, were the two I purchased). I quickly unwrapped 2 GN100 bats which instantly I fell in love with, and after much deliberation, I chose one and put that to one side. The second of the two bats was is what only can be described as monsterous. The second bat was a 2012 GN Powerbow Extreme. I was slightly put off when I saw that weight of the bat was 2lb 15oz, however, the pick up on this bat is beyond believe. When compared to the 2lb 11oz GN100 I brought, there is no difference. This bat was meant to be a grade 3 GN, however, this is the advantage of Asad hand picking all the bats he purchases. In the words of Asad "I can guarantee that I would never find a better GN Powerbow Extreme" and I am not surprised in honest.
Before I asked to see more bats, I thought enough was enough and kindly handed over my bank card. At £295 for both bats and 5 grips, I cannot argue with the quality and performance of these bats.
Bat 1 Details:

Bat 2 Details:

I would like to take this opportunity to thank Asad and his wife for being most hospitable throughout the day, and I would recommend anyone who is within a few hours of the store to take a visit. The quality of the cricket equipment there is second to none. See below a few pictures, I will get some better ones tomorrow in natural light!

Looks like you have got yourself a couple of guns there!
Must say the GN Powerbow is fantastic for a grade 3! I see bats labelled as G1+ with worse grains!
-
Yes I can't work that one out. Will post better pictures tomorrow.
-
that powerbow is huge.
-
Looks like you got an absolute steal. Grade 2 & 3, blimey.
-
are the extreme's still laminated?
-
Saw the title and thought I had missed out as I would have liked to tag along, then read that you had a full car, in a 500!
That PowerBow is a monster! And thepan scoop looks lovely
-
That powerbow looks like one of the h4l 3.7 pounders!
-
I practically paid for 3/4 of those bats 8) does that mean we can share hahah
-
I want one but knowing I may not be playing cricket this year means I cant :(
-
You missed out on the Gray Nicolls oblivion LE!!.
Did you see it around??
-
Nice bats, bit of an Alanis Morrisette irony though?
-
are the extreme's still laminated?
Do you mean do they have a fake grain sticker?
-
I always try to take cash no cards to asads as would not end up pretty
-
Do you mean do they have a fake grain sticker?
no the GN Nitro extreme i had a laminated chunk on the back not a full lam
-
This particular powerbow extreme is a single cleft bat.
-
Holy smokes! :O
That Powerbow Extreme looks amazing, I have seen few Gray Nicolls Oblivion Extreme and they were not 30% as good looking as that Powerbow.
This is where I would say Asad is different from others, he handpicks the bats and the quality with them is nearly guaranteed whereas with others that is not the case no matter how successful they are in the business. Quality and service comes first and it is most important.
Mind telling us how is the rebound on both bats ?
What type of handle does Gn100 have? Round?

I'm too young to remember the scoop being used, but there is something about this new one, I love the profile. Will the scoop be your Saturday bat and the PowerBow you 40 over Sunday bat?
What do you reckon to the changes to the league?
-
I can ask GN guys about the long blade
if you get any joy drop me a PM!
-
Ok I will pm u
-
Got another Power Bow Extreme , slightly heavier but with good pick up
Around 13 or 14 grains
Also received oblivion extrem pro with lovely grain willow
Have a light scoop GN100
Will post photos later
First come first serve
Regards
Asad
-
How light is the light scoop?
-
Might be interested in the scoop too, can you get some pics up Asad???
-
sorting out the photos now, weight is 2.9
-
Can't wait nom nom nom :D
-
my scoop also 2.9 :D

I dont live in UK, but personally I dont know why anyone would bother with custom brands if I could get to Asads. Going through a shop and sorting through bats like the ones above, is 1) Far more safe in getting a good bat, as you get to see it, and hit it,... and 2) gives you so much more variety.

And there in lies the point. Getting to Asad's isn't really that convenient for many. Hell, getting to Romida in Leatherhead takes a good hour from where I live and yet I'm only about 18 miles away. My nearest other source of bats is Morrant.
-
we had a customer who travelled all the way from derby to pick up 3 CA bats and according to him he has never seen such a nice variety of quality bats. will be posting photos soon of 2nd delivery of GN

Stop it Asad. I'll be wanting a 2lb 9oz Scoop off you soon enough.
Fair enough on the travelling. The more difficult question is how to convince the missus...
New thread. Excuses to the missus for visiting Asad's shop...
-
It's a bad experience visiting Asad's shop, as the choice is too vast!
I'm sure hit4six will agree that it would have been easy to walk away with 10 top notch bats, and still feel that there were others you wanted!
The choice is immense and he does have some special bats.
So in some ways I would prefer to visit a custom maker - cos you know you're more likely to walk away with just the 1 quality bat that way!! ;)

Just thought I would give you guys an insight into the performance of these bats. Took both down to the bowling machine yesterday and had an hour of balls. Using the scoop predominately as this will be my match bat, and I have to say the lack of meat behind the hitting area doesn't seem to affect the power generated with shots. I have to say that the pickup on the scoop felt ... different, but I cannot pin point why or how! A bucket of so of balls soon overcame this and I certainly enjoyed using it.
So then onto the monstrous powerbow. All I can say is that I have never in my life had a bar that felt so powerful. I have used a range of bats in my cricketing career but nothing comes close to this bat! It will definitely be a midweek bat, but it maybe worth me bulking up a bit use this bat.
Both are top quality blades and would give them both 2 big thumbs up!
-
Thanks for the review, we have 2 more Scoop and 1 Power Bow Extreme available. Pete Hosk and Aaron will let u know How good these are
-
That 2lb13 scoop was a terrific bat and that 3lb2 powerbow was HUGE and both went some just like a few other bats
-
Asad - any chance of getting any light Scoops in for us 17 stone weaklings?
(Fatty has a new car and Granny's Christmas money!!!)
-
Fattus - Asad had a 2'9 scoop which was hand picked.
The bat tapped up superbly well!!! The willow was ok looking but nothing special.
But give me performance first over cosmetics any day. And this 2'9 will perform!! ;)
-
Ta Pietro - has there ever been any pics posted of it? I don't remember seeing it?
