Hi Guys,
Just got gifted a plain AM bat by Asad from AS Sports. Was very happy to see such a kind gesture on Asad's part. However, when I saw the bat, I was overwhelmed with joy.
I have bought many bats since my relocation to the UK last year, but this bat is right up there with some of my best bats like the Newbery UZI C6+ (again bought from Asad) and the Screaming Cat.
The bat is massive to look at but picks-up like a breeze. The pick-up, balance and grains are excellent.
I have just tapped this bat with a mallet and it sounds sweet. I still have to try it in the nets, but I am sure it will not let me down on my expectations.
Apparently, this one of the many bats that Asad got made from scratch (right from choosing the willow to the final bat making) when he last visited Pakistan earlier this year.
Though not related to this purchase, but my best buying experience has been with Asad. He listens and then uses his excellent knowledge to send the best bats as per your requirements. Quite a gift. The personalized service is what I like. All emails, phone calls etc. are always responded to.
When I was buying my Newbery C6+ from Asad, it was the first time I hear a retailer telling me that a particular bat would not suit my style of play and recommended better options.
I was thinking of buying a Am or CA bat from one of the many advertised and other retailers, but the biggest advantage I think of buying the bats from Asad are his - honestly, unbiased opinion and to top it he is based in the UK (so returns are possible). (Btw he does not create a fuss about returns if they are legitimate claims. Again personal experience)
Without saying anything more, here are some of the pictures of the bat (Still in its packing; will be unleashed in the nets today).

AM is one of the well known brand from Pakistan. Younis Khan used to use their bat one time.

Looks fantastic!

Yuck... that has asian written all over it

Great looking bat, I love the bowed blade.

I suppose. sorry my bad
-
Thanku gramw.... my comment wasn't racist, we all know that

Bucko - I think I understand what you mean - i.e. you're not keen on the style of bats made by the asian manufacturers, but please think about what you're typing, as the way you've posted it could easily be mis-understood
-
Loooks prettyy good like. lush grains like the profile also !
-
what makes you think that greg?? is it the grains??
-
I think he says that because Yash is always buying new bats, and selling others.
-
Ooops, my bad!
-
Richie, my bats don't last too long with me.
The most I have owned the bat is about 8 months. I either sell them if I cannot come to terms with the bat or they are forcefully bought off me by my team mates (who are very lazy and prefer to buy a knocked in bat).
I will be happy if this bat lasts me 2 seasons. The price you pay for tight grains.
-
see, im always right :D:D

You mean- fantastic grains and profile? Your right

Not quite!! I hate the profile of those types of bat, I'm not sure what they remind me of... almost like lacross stick... looks like it will scoop everything up. I do like my bats bowed, but the asian type of profile, i cannot put my finger on it!!
-
Actually I don't mean lacrosse... I mean that crazy sport that is like squash, that isn't raquet ball (obviously)... that one with the crazy slingy thing
-
Jai Alai?

I agree that the Asian profile is quite distinct - 5 years ago I would probably have agreed with you, but all batmakers now seemed to incorporated this style into their bat shapes. I would say modern day bats have more in common with this kind of design, compared with traditinoal bladed bats from the 80's and 90's
-
the modern game required or warrants for bat with the "Asian" Profile as it is much better suited to the shorter (One Day) and the shortest (20/20) versions of the game.
And as Johnny rightly pointed out, all the big names have adapted to this profile or taken serious designing inspiration for this profile. Newbery - B52, Salix, Puma Vendetta/Evolution, GM Hero, Kookaburra Kahuna
Guess Bucko is bowler and had been getting quite stick/whack from batsmen using this Yuck "Asian" Profile.....
-
I am not a bowler no lol, I am a batsman wicket keeper... I find the nicest profiles are a mixture of the traditional with that of the new asian profile. You say all these manufacturers incorporate this profile, but they don't. Kookaburra kahuna for example is nowhere near the same profile, it looks far more balanced.
-
Kahuna does have a bow.... only the middle is a bit higher.
Do you mean the bats with a more Asian profile are not balanced? What about the Newbery B52??
Have you had the opportunity of holding such bats? My BAS had a pick-up and balance better than many big brand english bats I have bought.
I hear CA bats are much better than AM and AS
-
My CA 10000 has a slightly higher middle than the AM i think.
-
Yeah I have held many bats like that. They all feel light, yet bottom heavy somehow... Its not about the fact it is bowed though, that is what I am saying. I like them to be bowed... Just not like your AM. I think it is the edges as well, the way the edges are very thick on the middle. I would prefer more equally spaced edges throughout
-
Okay I get your point. But to have more uniformly thick edges either he thickness will have to be reduced in the striking area or the weight will have to be increased greatly.
If I am not mistaken you are pointing towards tapered edges, which are more uniform in thickness. However, these will be more prone to damage on mishits.
Unfortunately, today's version of One days and20/20 warrant need for bid edges so that even mishits turn into scoring shots....

Well said Yash, I agree with you on that.

Unfortunately I do not know enough terminology to carry on this argument... When I see a bat with a profile I like I will give you a shout and tell you what i mean
-
Bucko, mate I am not arguing with you just trying to understand your view point and explaining mine to you. A bat profile is the last thing to argue on.
I am no bat geek, just my view on the profile and why is it becoming so common and begin adapted by many bat makers.
For me a good bat is one with which i can score runs profile is immaterial for me as you can see I have bats with different profiles in my kit.
-
Yeah and I have no problem with everyones individual choice, I just personally feel I would be able to score more runs with a slightly more traditional bat... Although I don't think I'll be scoring many runs with my newly cracked GM icon (see new post!)... If you have any pointers on that yash then much appreciated :)
