There was a thread a while back about these bats, however, I would like to know if anyone has tried this brand recently.
I quite fance the VS limited edition.
-
ive never heard of them do look ok though. Surprising to see all the big indian names asking for bats. Wonder if their sponsors are aware ( or even care)
Must admit if i did buy one, those stickers would have to go!
-
Marty Graham was James Laver's apprentice, and I beleive I know of at least one international player, who continued to get his bats made by Marty after he left L&W, so I'd imagine they're pretty decent
-
yeah they do look like decent bats.
-
And quite expensive too :(
Wondering whether he is allowed to flaunt those pictures of international players who have contracts with their own sponsors :-\
-
Well he's not under contract so not doing anything wrong in my eyes. If it was such a big deal the players wouldn't allow themselves to be photographed.

Not sure about the first part of your statement mate; players like Sanga and Tendulkar are under contract from their sponsors;correct me if I am wrong but if this is not a big deal then why are handmade/boutique batmakers so hush hush about the international players they cater to? ???.....
-
This has been discussed before on here but the feeling was that MG2 made these bats for said players and 'presented' them when they met up. Therefore MG2 has made bats for the likes of Sachin etc but not because he actually asked them to!
On a slightly different note, I played against a guy last season, a kiwi pro who is very highly rated and he had a lot of good things to say about MG2 bats. He did think they were a little too expensive though. He also said that him and his fellow pro's don't get anything for free from them!
-
He could be sued for using personality rights of that player.

Yes, that is what is intriguing me as he is using these figures to display and even name his bats; it is as if these pics and personalities are doing his advertisements.

One reason may be because they don't make for that many, it sounds so much more extravagant and adds an air of mystery if they're secret
-
Interesting point Tom.
-
Those pics have been on that site for at least 18 months and probably a fair while longer than that so I guess if anyone was going to sue him they would have done it by now!!
It might have been that they happened to be in NZ at contract renegotiation time....... 8)

For example, star A advertises Coke and is photographed drinking Pepsi. Who would Coke sue/drop/whatever.
He's being a bit cheeky but they're all unbranded and as its been said before he's just turned up and is probably giving them out.

All excellent points. Bear in mind that communities such as CBF are probably the only ones that are interested in or care about such things. I don't think MG is doing anything untoward, we all realize that many bat makers advertise association with champions, look at Julian's site, the videos on there name a list of players actually show Gilly hitting the ball to all parts with a "puma". The recent release of GM player edition bats flat out acknowledges what we've noticed for years that the bats used by their sponsored pros bare little resemblance to retail models labeled the same, and we all notice with regularity the "TON" stamp on players bats whilst the stickers say something other than SS.
I imagine it's a tough market being a boutique bat maker, and good luck to them, if a pro has used their bats why not give it a shout? Seems the big boys only care about what stickers get shown on TV and that 99.9% of consumers are happy to be lead by that.
Just my thoughts for what it's worth.
MG VS profile does look nice!

I had a bat personally hand made in full for me By Marty and it was very very special indeed, it was hand signed by him although was branded as Aero and the bat was used in the world cup by a professional player scoring 50 odd not out absolutely stunning it was.
-
Chris Martin???? Haha
-
told a story by raje at raje sports of the indian lads being asked to test out some little known maker. Like all players they never refuse a free bat and had a few balls in the nets. The bat maker took some video and before you know it youtube here we come. Batmaker is making all kinds of claims and people are suckered in. Quite often bat makers target guys who are finishing agreements and looking for new bat sponsors.

So if it was personally handmade in full for you why was it used by a pro in the world cup and was it already signed when being used in such game???
