What do people think about the refferal system? I personally don't like the system of the captains asking for the refferal I think it undermines the umpires authority. I liked the way it was in the Stanford series with the umpires consulting. What way do you prefer?
-
i dont like it, it takes forever, just let the umpire make the decision and get on with the game
-
i think the current system being trialled is ok but needs some tweaking, the teams have to many chances (3) which leads to too many referrals, some unnecessary. this should be limited to 2.
but i would prefer the umpires to simply refer decisions themselves if they feel it is too close for themselves to tell. the umpires should be limited to 2 referrals during the innings though as otherwise they would refer almost everything to make sure they are not wrong.

I disagree with umpires being able to refer themselves... The great thing about the teams themselves challenging is that the role of the umpire on the pitch is still maintained. The umpire makes a decision, if either team is unhappy with it, they can then challenge... Its just like the system in tennis and its great. I'm so happy they get to use hawkeye up to the point where the ball impacts the pad, its superb! Hotspot should also be introduced... What happened to ultramotion? They never have that anymore

I think it’s a good concept due to the fact that the right decision will be made however I don't think the players should be able to refer it, it should be up to the umpire. If that happens, the right decisions will be met a lot quicker.
I also think snicko should be used.

I think it is disgraceful for the game of cricket. It will make the players feel as if they are in control but in my eyes that is what the umpires are there for. It is just like saying in football if a player gets a red card they can argue with the ref and then see a replay and then get told they can stay on the pitch! It is just not like the game of cricket to do so imo. I think the decisions should be made on the umpired judgement and nobody elses!.

The teams do only have two don't they? I agree that umpires should be allowed to reffer dsicions.
-
it may well be 2?, i was not totally sure, if it is 2 they should only be allowed 1
-
Slogger they shouldnt be aloud any at all that is what the umpires job is about!
-
i agree! but realistically speaking there must be some other way just to avoid the glaring errors/mistakes.
-
I would imagine that there are more correct decisions now being made than there used to be as umpires, for example, are more willing to give people out on the front foot than they used to be. You are always going to have mistakes even with referals, the technology is only as good as the people using it, as proved by daryl harper in the first test!
-
Referrals are great.... They should have 2 per innings (I'm not sure what it is now). It doesnt disrupt the game at all... its not like they are referring every 5 mins. I bet its once an hour at most. The process will speed up over time as it gets evaluated and there is good feedback etc. Snicko can't really be used because its just sound, the way you interpret sound is very subjective

Well, does that Chanderpaul decision change anyone's view? How can you get it wrong when looking at a slow motion replay? Incredible...
-
refferals are good if your an england fan half an hour ago :D chanderpaul dismissal definately not out but it was reffered and given!
-
referrals are meant to cut stuff like that out!!
-
there we go again! nash, given lbw, too high!
-
this is ridiculous there is no way that dArryl harper could have ajudged shiv and nash LBW
-
bloody awful decisions, something needs to be done to stop this....
-
referrals are fine its more the umpire getting the balance right with the tough ones
-
yea thats what i mean, they need to use all the technology possible as well :P
-
Cricket at the top level has now descended into complete farce.

I agree Art.
The West Indians have the right to feel peed off and this is the sort of thing that Harper has become famous for, dodgy decisions.
