Afternoon fellas, I'm a tad bored today, not much going on with work, so I thought I would post a little review of these thigh guards.
I have been through so many different thigh guards over the last season. Strippers, CA, GM etc but hadn't found a set that were really comfortable, protective and yet fairly unobtrusive. Until now that is. I had always skipped past these as I felt that, compared to the rest of their range of softs, these Puma's looked stupid. Grey camouflage? Daft! Stupid colour scheme imo. Anyway, by a happy accident i ended up with an inner and outer in this range (Thanks Aswani Cricket!!) and I have to say I am mightily impressed.
Not only are they incredibly good value for money (cost me approx £23 plus postage) but they fit better than any set I have had before, 'lock in' to my pads perfectly, offer excellent protection (90+mph so it says) and are extremely light weight. They are made up of 3 different layers of foam (see pic) and really do take the sting out of just about anything whilst remaining really thin unlike a large number of other guards.
I guess it's a boring review but if, like me, you have been skipping past them because they look daft then take a closer look. I am really impressed.........and possibly a little sad for writing a review on a thigh pad.......... :D :D

you were doing so well until...
and possibly a little sad for writing a review on a thigh pad..........
don't the colours really put you off? what height are they? they look pretty thick too...
-
The colours really put me off at first but the fact is I have tried pretty much every other thigh pad so I thought I'd give these a go! Grey camouflage is not a good look, it was why I always skipped past them on the shelves but I can live with them. If they were white I would have bought them ages ago! In fact, in white I reckon they'd look pretty good.
The height of the outer at its longest point is 15in and the inner 10in and the thickness is a shade under 1in for both pads...hope that helps... :)

15 cm? really are you sure about that? 15 inches maybe or are they a youth size set?... under 1cm for a thigh pad is good going.
colours are still dreadful!!
-
Ooops, you spotted my deliberate mistake. :D 15 inches and a tad under 1 inch in thickness........
Have to say that its completely beyond me to think why on earth Puma decided Grey Camouflage was a good idea? It's not like it fits in with the rest of their range is it?

it shows my comedy obsession with all things thigh pad related, sorry.
1inch is way to thick for a comfy thigh pad!
-
What have you got that's thinner then??? Tell me, I am thigh pad obsessed! :D

GM Original L.E. is about 10-12mm thick, as are the Kookaburra Players thighpads.
I have a set of Kooks and GM's on trial at the moment - GM's shading it at the moment.

I tried the GM ones and they were nice but I kept having to adjust them. Never tried the Kook stuff but if I'm honest I'm not a big fan of Kook stuff in general. I expect a full report once you make your decision!!
