Well after a good win for the Sri Lanka today thought it was worth a mention about J K getting his first pair in his test cricket career.
Quite an achievement for it to come so late in his test playing career. I guess the big question is this the beginning of a slump in form that could end his career? Lets hope not...
When he retires South Africa will have a massive hole to fill...

thats a bit hasty! quality player.
-
An absolute legend and undoubtedly the most complete allround cricketer of the modern era.
Quality batsman in any format of the game, genuine wicket taker and a top slip fielder.
People like this rarely get replaced.
-
I'm not saying that they should drop him, I hope he stays for at least another 5 years but now days everybody wants players dropped when they are a little older and have a dip in form, just have to look at the stick Ponting has been getting over the last few months.
PM7 I could not agree more..

2nd only to sobers as an all rounder for me
-
He was and still is a fantastic player! You'd be hard pressed to find another like him.
Quality batsman/ bowler and fielder, complete package. Love to have 10% of his talant.

Being 36 years and 74 days old, I'd be surprised if he makes it more than 3 years. Cricinfo stats guru gives him an average 51.28 average for the calendar year, including the ducks. Not to shabby and it suggests there is life in the old dog yet.

Just had a look at his all time stats.. What a player...

Did he have the wickets that Kallis has got?

No-one will ever know is the true answer!

Its always fair to comment on a player you have actually watched or a player who played during your lifetime.
I never saw Hammond, Bradman or Sobers play so its pointless me commenting on them.
Im a huge fan of Kallis,Lara, Ponting and Sachin as I can relate to them and have followed their careers. Its pretty silly that these guys who SET the benchmark in recent years are being called to be dropped the moment they slip below the line.

Cant compare people from as different eras as Hammond and Kallis.
But Kallis has a better average than both Tendulkar and Zaheer Khan in their respective fields which says all that needs saying in my view.

2nd agreed

I certainly won't be putting money on him getting another pair any time soon. I also doubt that he'll go down the Ponting road either. He just has something about him - I guess 'dependable' is the word! I wouldn't be surprised if South Africa slip a place or two down the rankings after he retires...

Think he's past it tbh ;)

He smashed it today. Very impressive strike rate
